You like Space?
I recently bought the entire Galactic Civilization III (Gal Civ III) bundle including all DLC for <$40 (under 40). It was a 75% sale. Pretty good deal I guess. Included bunch of DLC and expansions. UNFORTUNATELY FOR YOU however, that was weeks ago, and the discount itself is no longer available. I think! Idk when it expired exactly, but I'm sure it did.

Anyway. Gal Civ III is similar in ways to Civ VI. However, your expanding across a large galaxy. It's turn based. The maps are Hexagon as well. You customize your own ships, and put together your own fleets, and you control them across space. Typical 4X strategy! Xplore, Xpand, Xploit, Xterminate!! However, you really don't take part in the combat's itsself. You basically tell your fleets where to go, tell them who to attack if you choose, but you don't tell them how, or have any part in the strategy of the fight. It's almost as if your obviously sitting in the Leader's office, and sending out orders through your generals, and trusting your generals, and their officers to handle the fight. That's how someone told me to look at it like. You do however watch, and something about it, when you customize, and design, and build your own ships, not just modules, but you literally customize how they look, using probably 40+ objects specific to a race design of ships, and you can do all sorts of things warping and manipulating how each piece looks, attaches, even animates, and than you choose to add modules as well. Specified weapons, defenses, support, boosts, counter modules, etc. and you design the ships how you want them to look, and fight. There something addicting in designing your military to such detail, and than watching it immensely in a fight, desperately hoping your designs pan out, and dramatically engaged and angry when your fleets utterly LOSE, that drives the passion of this game! Insane!

Once complete with designs, you build them in your ship foundries, and group them how you want, and tell them where to go. Once they get involved in a fight, whether you ordered them to attack, or they were attacked by other empires, you are not involved in the fight, besides watching. If you choose.
Their also diplomacy, trade, culture, (idk about faith, or religion), and so much more I've yet to explore in game. You explore space events, objects, planets, stars, nebulaes, etc, til you eventually meet other major empires, as well as minors (similar to Civilizations and City States, respectively, from Civ series).

I'll warn you however. I only got about 5-10 turns in, and quit! ONLY BECAUSE, it's complicated, and time consuming, and I felt like every turn I was making mistakes. With that said, their is a tutorial. But I spent a lot of time out of a specific game, playing with ship designer, which you can do from game main menu! One other setback, It appears to be 2d, or at least it looks 2D. The graphics are NO Where near what I've seen on Civ VI. HOWEVER, I think it performs way better. As far as I've seen, NO CRASHING!!
Civ VI touted to have REALLY GOOD graphics, and amazing visuals, which I myself found appealing, many didn't. Many complain the Civ VI is too cartoonish, which I liked the aspect. I think it made it more fun to play! People complain it's not realistic. I say, it's a GAME, not supposed to be! Anyway. I do believe however, that the Graphics and Visuals of Civ VI, turn out to be its greatest downfall. It just demands TOO much from a computer to process everything happening.
When you first try Gal Civ III, you will definately see a difference in the graphics/visual Fx engine between the two games. So don't have high visual expectations going into Gal Civ III if you purchase it.

If you like the 4x strategy of Civilization, but looking for something offering more, something different, something diverse? Check out Galactic Civilization III, also here on Steam!
