Trading Great Works

So I'm trying to out culture other civs in my game, so I try and trade two of my great works with one of theirs in order to get a theme bonus from 3 similar peices of artwork, they accept, but i do not get their great artwork?
Am I just missing a step or do i need to wait a few turns or something?!?!

If you have a slot for it you should get it. It may be a bug if you didn't get it.

Personally I like to extort great works from the AI's as compensation for the suicidal wars they declare on me for no reason. And there is the great work heist that you can let your spies do on enemy culture districts.

Turns out if you do not have a slot available then the great work is just lost forever.
