The inner machinations of Fireaxis' mind are an enigma.
As for the larger maps (large and huge) being smaller than 5 I have a feeling it's because the tiles may be slightly bigger (to fit the images of the districts and wonders in). So space wise it may be the same size as in civ 5, but tiles wise - no. :(
I'm pretty sure that's not how that works.
Errrr how you mean exactly?
Btw in case anyone was wondering heres the differences:
Civ 5..........................................Civ 6
Duel............40/24.......................44/26
Tiny.............56/36.......................60/38
Small...........66/42.......................74/46
Standard......80/52.......................84/54
Large.........104/64.......................96/60
Huge.........128/80......................106/66
Not quite how that math works. For huge maps, 128X80 = 10240 tiles in the map. 106X66 = 6996 tiles in the map. Huge maps are actually 3244 tiles smaller in civ 6, not 128.
EDIT: Oh, and you can just change the numbers yourself to get the bigger size maps. I've posted instructions for this a few days ago in the guide section. Civ 6 plays perfectly stable for me at huge civ 5 size (128x80) with 16 civs and 8 city states.
Thats what i get for doing math tired as hell XD. yea i took the difrence of the two sides not the difrence of the area blarge.
Oh so it is a simpler fix than some other games for chaing map sizes. thats good.
how so? is the ratio of land to water difrent?
Yup, much more land to water.
