"Create Game > Load Configuration" results in exactly the same leader/Map/Resource/Position
Loading a saved "create game configuration" with random leader should result in a different leader on a different map every time you load it and create a game from it. It doesn't!!
I loads exactly the same 'random' seed used to generate an absolutely identical new game with the same:
- Leader
- Map
- Resources
- Start positions
- Opponents (didn't take long to check as they were in the same place)

This genre defining game title that made Sid Meier's name is so broken in so many ways; I'm wondering whether Firaxis actually give a **** anymore... This from a fn who has been there since day 1 of the Civ story!

hi..

as it should. when you create the initial game, it creates the "seed". after you make your configuration adjustments and before you save that configuration, go to advanced configuation, locate the seed values.. and comletely delete them. there should not be any numbers in the seed fields before you save your specific configuration. once deleted, then .. save your configuration.

when the game loads or you restart because maybe you don't like the initial start. your configuration will always "regenerate" a new seed, with the parameters of your saved config, as there is no previous seed value to go off of.

all the best.

Just realized this, too. This is beyond idiotic and obviously not how anyone would want to use that "feature". I guess it's simply broken in an incredibly stupid way

Obviously, OZFugazi's "fix" works, but I probably would never have found that out myself (thank you very much btw). Why the default way would create the same map all over again is beyond me, you could simply save your game in turn 1 if you really wanted to play the same game all over again. I figure that the way people would want to use this feature is the same that I do: to avoid having to set up your game each and every time although you're always using the (roughly) same settings every time

You resurrected a thread over two years old... but didn't read it? The post above yours explains that all you have to do to correct this "problem" is remove the game and map seeds before you save the configuration.

Nothing is broken: If you save those seeds with your configuration then the game is doing what you told it to do when it generates the same game and map every time. Removing those seeds is how you tell the game to randomize. It is a simple solution that takes seconds to enact and then lasts for as long as you use that saved configuration.

Oh, so you did read it, but you just felt compelled to complain about having to take a few "extra" seconds to make your saved configurations work the way you want them too.

Okay.

Another thing to note about 'Load Configuration' is that it will also load/unload mods to those in use when the configuration was saved.

I think I explained why I find the workings of that mechanic highly counterintuitive. Probably not a problem if you are used to it from earlier civ games (?) or something, or perhaps there is even a reason people would want it to work that way that I don't quite see, but I thought something must be wrong, tried several times deactivating my mods etc.

Interesting, good to know!

This is the first version of Civ that has had such a robust and feature-filled system for managing game configurations. Older versions of Civ just remembered the last configuration you used, if they even did that.

However, you are right that the way it is designed is confusing and counterintuitive, particularly with regard to handling the game and map seeds. It would be helpful if there was an obvious checkbox for "Preserve Seeds" that would start cleared, so that when creating a configuration the default behavior would be to have new seeds generated each time you load it - which is probably what almost every player would want. Those who did want to preserve the seeds could then do so by just adding a mark in the "Preserve Seeds" box.

So, don't feel bad about not immediately understanding how it works - I certainly didn't and I imagine that most people did not either. Still, once you do understand it, getting it to do what you want is easy - albeit not as easy as it could be with some changes to the UI.

My thoughts exactly (well, that and I admit I was a little pissed after trying to start a game four times and not understanding what was wrong, and only finding a somewhat complicated-sounding solution that, of course, turned out to thankfully not be very complicated at all)
