AI cheating and stuff
First of all... In my opinion Civ 6 is the WORST civ in the history. But let's not talk about that. Let's talk about cheating AI.
I create new game, as Poland of course, and set myself into historic locations. I choose Germany in this game and bunch of others that are scattered across the world.
Turn 5 and Germany declaring war on me on highest difficulty. I looked at this and said - well.. that's odd but let's do this if you want.
Turn 6 - Whole German army with 10 units are knocking to my doors. Seriously? Turn 6 and this guy has 10 units? I couldn't even build ONE unit and he has 10 of them?
This is happening EVERYTIME i create a new game. If this is supposed to be "hard AI" to you then i feel sorry for your programming capabilities. Sure.. let's boost opponents to no end and say here.. that's the best what we can come up with.
I remember Beyond Earth (my best modern Civ) and there wasn't such a BS in game.
And of course you can't play on lower difficulties because the AI is a complete garbage push over. The AI doesn't even protect their capitals...

you know there's a mod for issues like this? It's called smoother difficulty.

all difficulty does is add cheats to the AI. so on highest difficulty i would bet they are OP at the start. In fact, most games do this unfortunantly.

and they have better stats to top it off

The game was released not even a year ago, Civ 5 had the same reception as Civ 6 has right now. All this will be fixed within 2 years like Civ 5, it's a process, not to mention there are mods that are available to fix all your issues, not to mention that all the past Civ games used the same method to difficulty of making AI have great bonuses.

Have you ever even played a previous Civ game?

If you don't want to talk about something, don't talk about it. If you do talk about it, you can expect other people to do so too.

I've heard that Civ V was way worse at launch than Civ VI was, so there.

It's not cheating when the ai is given by design the various yield bonuses to make th slightly more competitive. Diety also starts with 3 settlers, 2 builders, and 5 warriors. So for them to build 5 additional units in 6 turns is not all that difficult. The AI is still remarkably dumb but if you still can't fend off this mini rush, then lower the difficulty.

Or when playing true earth dont pick your ai opponent that spawns within 10 tiles of you

Difficulty level = cheat level. Sadly.
If the amount of cheat is too much all you can do is lower the slider a bit.

I think at one time difficulty levels were represented by ai competence buffed with a small measure of cheating but developers seem to have determined it's too much work

It never was like that, well maybe in the older Civs, but Civ V adds cheats to AI when you increse diffuculty too,it's the easiest way to increase the difficulty in every game, very little games actually increase the AI competence, like shooters just add more enemies, stratagy games gives cheats to resources or makes their units stronger,so yeah it's just the truth about video games,I may say that I never even seen a game that increases AI competence with difficulty tbh.

If we could make more competent AI, we would, but right now the best AI are either too expensive or too complex to implement into a game like Civ.

well a game like Civ really needs good AI,since it's main singleplayer, though I do get that it's expensive and hard to do that, like I'm not even surprised that games have bad AI it's like every game now,the only game with good AI that came out recently is Steel division normandy 44 and that game is mainly MP,so thats ♥♥♥♥...

I can't think of a game that has worse ai than this one. Name another strategy game where the ai doesn't use a good part of its units (air units none ships barely) at all, declares war and never attacks or barely attacks. It doesn't have to be super computer ai but this is beyond rediculous and this is after 8 months. I can tell you stardock wouldn't release garbage like this. Play ashes of the singularity sometime and see what good ai is.

And it's the best gaming can get because devs don't spend much time with the AI unlike Eugen (unless the game is RUSE, that was total ♥♥♥♥♥), who actually make their AI very smart not through cheats (as far as I know), and it's pretty good, especially playing against other people in my opinion (but I see MP is something you seem to hate with a passion from what I've read here so far).

Hopefully neural nets become a major thing in gaming as I've already seen neural nets be able to take only several hours worth of music from Mozart and Beethoven and create similar works that are not just borrowing but actually entirely new and unique pieces that sound pretty good!

AI should recieve bonuses throughout the game rather than getting all of them at the start which just leads to tough early game but easy late.

I think they should get siege eqiupment every era or something because they dont seem to be able to make any conquests after walls go up, even against each other.

The real joke is the statement about Beyond Earth. Beyond earth was a total fail. Just go look at the SteamCharts it lost 65% of its player base in 1 month, then 45% the next month and within 6 months went from 86k players to 4k. That's 95% of players losing interest in 6 months. As far as civilization games go that's absolutely terrible.
