Special Ops in Year 1580???
Yes, I am playing only at Prince level with Epic speed on a Huge map and here comes a Special Ops unit from Montezuma I think in the year 1580. I just had to laugh, but I'm wondering how many of these anachronistic units are other seeing?

I realize some civs are just programmed to beeline certain civs and ignore others, but this is ridiculous.

They got them from a Great General, I'm 99% certain.

The date doesn't hold up to decently-optimized science output, especially on slower speeds.

It's quite common to have some end-game units around 1600 in deity games, specially in slower speeds

https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Samori_Tour%C3%A9_(Civ6) specifically can be retired to create a spec ops if you've got R&F.

Yes, you are correct. In my current game I got a Special Ops Unit in the year 1475 (Epic speed, Prince difficulty) from a Great General. I had a lot of fun running around with that unit killing are sorts of units - that one unit made a difference for me in my game.

I would think this could be easily fixed to make things a little more sensible, but who knows?

Wait until someone appears with the high end warships early on. They wreck your navy and all but soldify that you arent getting any units to them in a war.

I still stand by my original post and use Aliens as a reason to why any one can get these units that soon when it makes zero sense logic wise.

I haven't that much, but I am playing at only Prince difficulty. I find I am usually a bit ahead of the AI units that appear on the map. That is except for that rogue Special Op unit that shows up in the 13th century and seems to be tied to a Great General. I guess if all the players are earning Great Generals, it would move the appearance of this unit up in the game. I imagine the developers missed the boat on that one as it doesn't make sense having it appear as early as it does.

Don't play in higher difficulties. In every game there will be civs building spaceports in 600BC

Along these same lines (again I am playing only at Prince difficulty Epic speed) Gorgo declares war on me very early in the game. It isn't too bad, but then suddenly he is spamming Knights, Cavalry and Field Cannons. Then Bombard and Curassiers or whatever. I check his Science and, no lie, he is 23 techs behind me in last place (10 civs total) and I am in first.

I am still fielding Horsemen, Swordsmen, Spearmen, and Catapaults, just about to get Crossbowmen.

I know some civs really beeline a certain line of techs, but this is a little ridiculous I think.

And, yeah, if spaceports are showing up in 600 BC the game is broken IMO.

That is probably renting troops from city states.
Science can get really out of hand in civ6, since there isn't really any balancing for war-mongering civs who take over a bunch of cities.

So if they did that.. they're going to have a ton.

Well then they picked better techs for fighting than you did.

Thats a good point, forgot that it may not be city state troops but just rushing something specific. Like you can get firearms really damn fast without even having basic anything else

You're right of course, but the thing I don't get is how he can support these more advanced units when he is obviously skipping the techs necessary to generate gold for their maintenance. I have heard that the AI at whatever difficulty pretty much ignores the gold requirement to support troops and I think this is proof. If you as a player follow this strategy to just pick those military related techs I don't think you could support much of an army/navy.

I might try that strategy my next game just to see how it works out.
