Can't join CIV 6 Multiplayer

Having some issues joining a CIV 6 multiplayer game with friends. Using a MAC and was able to join games when I was staying elsewhere. Now when friends are running a Civ 6 game i'm unable to join them, have tried running a multiplayer game in the background which hasn't worked and everyone has tried restarting the game and lobby, have also verified which hasn't made a difference. I have also tried using a PC and i'm still getting the same issue.

Some of them are using a non-steam version of the game and we're joining the lobby via room code, is anyone able to help?
