Why can't I build things?

I've moved up in era and hadn't built walls in some of my newer cities. Now that I've moved up I show that a new wall is availble but I can't build it because I never built the one from the previous era (can't build Medeival wall because I never built ancient era wall) is there a fix for this?

No, the new walls are upgrades. You need to build the ancient wall and then upgrade it to an medival wall.

Actually I checked the city again and what's been built and it shows that I have the Ancient wall built but the medeival wall is grayed out saying I need the ancient 1st. Now what do I do?

I've had this happen to me. If you build the ancient or medevil walls then unlock the last one but don't build it for awhile. I think you can outpace the last wall(maybe even the second one). At some point not sure which era you get all the walls for free when you settle any new towns. I'm pretty sure you are getting credit for having all 3 walls. It is just bugged and is showing the walls for construction, but grayed out.

After time the walls go away totally and you cannot build them if you have not in the past. If you build a city in the modern era you do not have a wall option.

scroll way down maybe you need to repair it
where the district projects are
and walls are kind of a waste to build as you get all walls automaticly once your in modern era
not sure if free walls are related to tech or era, just know you get em at some point for free
i just build ancient walls on outer citys because its a waste of time to build all of it and they cheap to build
or even buy if you are suzerain of valetta i think it is, then you can buy them for 200 faith

Maybe if you're playing on easy mode. Walls are pretty much a necessity early-game on any difficulty above king since your cities are weak af compared to Civ5 without them, plus no city attack without walls.

When you reach a certain tech or civic (I don't recall which but it is stated on the tooltip) current walls become obsolete but all your cities get 200 defence and can fire on enemies.

That build option in the city buiild screen is just a bug, ignore it as you already have the walls automatically (well their function anyway,) however you wont get the visual surrounding the city.

Perhaps you have Suzerain (sic?) status with the City State that make it so you cannot buy walls besides with faith. That may carry over to building them too.

Open up your "civics" tree and hover the mouse of Civil Engineering and you will find the answer.

Game will not let me build the Pyramids. I've got the gold I've got the level area but when I right click or left click on space it fails place in the space. Why?

Are you trying the build it on the desert with no hills?
