How to scam the AI in trade deals
This ruins the game on anything but immortal/deity levels, where it makes it a bit easier to keep up as gold is no issue.

Once you can trade open borders, start a trade discussion, and offer them all the gold and gold per turn you can, along with open borders (or any other trade item). Ask what the other side will give you, and they will offer an equal value trade, however, as the AI doesn't seem to like trading gold for gold per turn, the gold that you offered will be removed from your side of the trade deal and the AI ends up offering you hundreds of gold per turn in return for just your open borders (or trade item). And the AI then seems happy that they have a 'favourable' trade deal. This eventually bankrupts the other player and they end up declaring war on you a lot more often in order to stop paying you so much, but by this point you can buy enough units to defend yourself, make peace with them and start the process over again until you get bored of rolling around in gold. I had two friendly AI go on a joint war with me after I stumbled across this. Funny thing is, I only used it on one of them.

Yeah, they tend to join up with whoever they can, The amount of times i've had videos of my own leader declaring war on me beacuse they have teamed up with a nation i have not met yet! Still, all the gold and war is worth it as you end up getting some nicely experienced combat units!

Plus once you make peace with, they're usualy still pretty friendly until a few turns after you spam them again! Repeat and rinse! I haven't tried this on an MP game yet as would be a bit unfair, so unsure if it would work in mp? Anyone been evil enough to try this?

How can it possibly ruin the game? Just don't do it....

I see this on a lot of games; "This cheat/exploit exist and it breaks/ruins the game". I can't even begin to understand how it does that if people are playing single player.
Multiplayer, a totally different thing.

Well, once i knew it existed, it's difficult to not use this against the AI's that make trouble, and at least on immortal/deity, they can still pose a challenge rather than being a complete walkover as they would be in the lower difficulty levels.

Yeh i figured it was a bug/glitch/design issue that they keep declaring war on you when they run out of money. Never used the exploit tho.

I tried to search to see if anyone else had posted on this, but couldn't find anything similar so thought i'd let people know just in case. PS to be honest i hope the next update corrects this, especially if it works in MP.

Ok, fair enough. Look at it in a positive light; it might prove a good way to train self-control for you at least :)

It's why in multiplayer, I need to have all AIs turned off.

Could be worse. AI would not accept my open borders as a gift. They insisted I pay them for the honor of their presence in my lands. Who knew the Kardashians were a civ?
Helen Carnate Nov 15, 2016 @ 3:13pm
You can also do it repeatedly to the same civ. Say everyone is at war with each other but Russia gets a spot all to themselves and expands to be huge. The other nations may end up with 20-50 gold per turn depending on difficulty, but Russia could end up with 200+ gold per turn. So if you have 10 extra items, you can trade with Russia for 200 gold per turn (plus whatever else they will give you) 10 times for 2000 gold per turn. The odd thing is, Russia still cranks out their own 200 gold. If you go back a couple turns later after you drain them, they will have 400 or so gold.

new easy way to do a much weaker exploit with domination is to take their gold first trade them gpt then instantly declare war essentially they dont get the gpt
and they cant buy units so as long as they dont have any production you can sweep on them
