This thread is expressing a valid opinion - an opinion EPIC would probably like to gauge the strength of feeling on.
I haven't expressed any hate or ill-feeling towards EPIC.
And this thread is enquiring about the opinions of others on the subject raised.
Oh, and if you just want to try it. You could always get it for free from Epic, or try limited demo on Steam. Then play it and decide if you want to buy it in either place.
But the point was the free HB copy was a Steam key.
A free copy on EPIC doesn't incentivise me. Probably some will... but I'm just not interested in another client.
Welllll .... I am also expressing opinion, so, “sauces-for-geese-and-ganders,” I guess.
To wit: “do what you think is best.”
Second: you think Epic cares about informal polls conducted in Steam forum threads?
Whence the claim that this is a “hate thread?”
That is true.
Steam has developed "somewhat*" of a monopoly, and Epic is using these tactics to try to break that.
*Somewhat being the key word there. It isn't complete as some publishers will only use their own store, but besides that Steam has basically been the monopoly. Even if you can buy from other stores, you are/were buying into the Steam monopoly.
There used to be some competition. Stardock Central (later Impulse, then later GameStop app after Gamestop bought it from Stardock) I believe predated Steam as a digital store. Gamestop absolutely wrecked then abandoned the platform after paying a LOT of money for it. Fools.
Reading his post, the OP isn't looking for advice as much as conversation on having only one store on your PC vs multiple stores.
I got the free game on Epic and played with a few friends this week. I loved the game so much that as soon as I saw the current deal for the Platinum Bundle, I couldn't help but buy the full game with all its expansions.
Civ deserves to be played with all its content, based on my previous experiences with Civ V, although I don't really enjoy this current "culture" on the gaming industry for releasing the game in pieces and you gotta buy it again every year.
Also, the mods on Steam Workshops are WAY better than the ones you can install through Epic Games' platform.
And yet you are in the Civ6 forums. Sounds like a hurt fanboy.
Sadly everything I've read says that that isn't going to be the case, so yeah, Civ V is the better choice.
The CD Project Red launcher GOG Galaxy 2.0 connects to all other gaming platforms. You can inspect, install, update, and launch from the GOG client. I have the following launchers connected to my GOG Galaxy:
I can manually add installed games that are from Matrix, Storm Powered & other smaller pubs. The GOG launcher also shows games in my XBox Game Pass subscription. The GOG launcher is not perfect and occasionally I have sync issues, but it's pretty good.
You could try the GOG launcher with your Steam library and see if it fits your needs.
For purchases I use IsThereAnyDeal and selected which key stores I like to purchase from. I sync my wishlists from Steam and GOG to this site.
So I have a single client for my current games, and a single site for future purchases.
EDIT: And this convenience causes problems! I purchase too many games that I'll likely never get time to play, and the abundance of choice can lead to selection paralysis. I did NOT see that coming!
