The game design on creating archeologists appears to be flawed.
You have apparently a 4 phase create and upgrade of the buildings to allow you to create an archeologist. But if you inadvertantly do the 4th phase upgrade, you can no longer create archeologists. Either the game should be changed to still allow you to create them, or there should be a warning that you must click okay on, that if you build that 4th phase upgrade, you can no longer create them. Personally, I think it should be changed so you can create them even after the 4th phase upgrade is completed.

Pretty sure you can. You just can't create an archaeologist in a city that doesn't have a non-filled archaeology museum, and that doesn't already have an archaeologist.

Yes, I am aware you can only have one archaelogist at a time, and I am aware that you have to available space in the museum. What I am saying, and others have reported, that you cannot update the building to the next level, else you will no longer be able to make that unit in that city. When that building upgrade that kills making them is available, and you execute it, you are not warned that you will no longer be able to make that unit in that city. This forces you to find another city where the prescribed building is either available, or build those buildings to do so, which is VERY time consuming. I just don't get why the authors decided to do it that way, when every other unit is available once discovered.

This is literally the first time I've seen a report that building a broadcast centre prevents production of the archaeologist.

seems like a (small) oversight.

and agreed

If you build an art museum you can never change it. That is what is locking you out, not the broadcast center. I have had broadcast centers up and been able to make an archaeologist just fine as long as you have the correct museum in the city.

In general the archeology system is pretty hard to use. You can only make the archeol at a city with the artifact mu, and they require rediculous amounts of effort to build. All so it can go take 10-20 turns to produce a single work of art.

I realize it is a very small part of the game, but it worked a LOT better in Civ V.

You can have as many archeologists as you have archeology museums (one archeologist per museum). Each archeologist will dig up three sites and retrieve three relics. Each museum only has three spots for relics though. Once those are full, no more archys can be built at that museum. If you have 10 cities, each with an archeology museum, then you can have 10 archeologists on the map at one time.

I haven't been able to test the broadcasting station to see if it somehow blocks the ability to build an archeologist. It doesn't sound right though.

What are you talking about with this 4th phase stuff?

And how did the Broadcast Tower get into this conversation? It has absolutely nothing to with archeologists.

You unlock Humanism in the Civics Tree.

You build the Archeological Museum.

You build an Archeologist in that city.

What's so hard about that?
Twelvefield 2016 年 11 月 21 日 下午 11:09
The museum doesn't get replaced by the broadcast tower. The BT gets added into the cultural district as a new building, but all the old buildings remain.

If you built an art museum, no Indiana Jones.

If you see three sets of ruins on the map, build an Archeological Museum. If not, build an Art Museum. If niether option works, build spies and steal what you want. If your spies are captured, build tanks and invade for loot.

I have verified my claims above:

1) building broadcast stations does NOT block your ability to build archeologists. Just to make sure I wasn't seeing things I built three broadcast towers before even trying for an archeologist.
2) you can only build ONE archeologist per archeology museum. Once that museum has its archy, you can't build another in that city.
3) you can build multiple archeologists if you have multiple archeology museums. I currently have two on the map with a third one coming in five turns.
4) each archeologist gets to dig three times (at different sites). Convenient considering there are three empty slots in each ardheology museum.

If you are England, you can build two archiologists per museum. Each museum can hold 6 artifacts.

Interestingly, this doesn't mean they can each excavate 3 artifacts. They only vanish once their museum is full. This only comes into play as England. You can have 2 archeologists running around digging up artifacts as fast as they can find them. One of them might only get one artifact, and the other one might get 5. But as soon as the 6th artifact is dug up , BOTH of them vanish. I guess the museum stops funding their digs once it's full.

tryondustbiter - that explains it for me. Many thanks. I did not realize that you can't make more of them once your museum is full, but considering that it belonged to that museum, that now makes complete sense.
Name Lips 2016 年 11 月 23 日 上午 8:55
This also explains why there aren't more Indiana Jones movies. Damn museum got full.
MaxDoomSWE 2016 年 11 月 23 日 上午 9:51
I just go for science victory every time since its the thing you win at no matter if you want to or not. Yes. Its just that simple to gain science in this imbalanced beta version of the game. And the cost of building units is ridiculously high, so the last thing you want to do is also build super expensive archeologists.
