Field Cannon range bug <solved>
The "Field Cannon" says it has a range of 2. Every time I try to use one though, I have to be within 1 hex of my target. Even if I'm on a hill and the target and all intervening hexes are farmland / grassland, the game makes me move adjacent to the target before shooting.

Field cannon don't upgrade to artillery. They upgrade to machine guns, which do have a range of one.

No I think archers, etc upgrade to machine gunners ? Cannon upgrades to artillery. Artilelry has greater range than cannon

still if the help text and the manual pages say "two hex range" then it should be two hex range. Civ5 had several range units that upgraded to a shorter range.

still if the help text and the manual pages say "two hex range" then it should be two hex range. Civ5 had several range units that upgraded to a shorter range.
Field cannons do have 2 hex range. I don't know why it's not working in your case, but they really do have a 2 hex range. This is the first time I've heard anyone claim they don't have 2 hex range, just like the unit they upgrade from (but unlike the one they upgrade to).

Bombards upgrade to artillery. Field cannon, which are in the same line as archers, upgrade to machine guns.

Artillery, archers, bombards, crossbows, and field guns are all range 2. Slingers, rangers and machine guns have range 1. Rocket artillery have range 3.

Field cannons (the upgrades from crossbow which are the upgrades from archers) have a range of 2 hexes and I also fire them at 2 hexes away. Depending on my situation, I sometimes don't upgrade them to machine guns if the extra range is needed. Machine guns are the only unit in this chain that have a range of 1. Edit: Forgot about slingers, they're range 1 too.

Whatever it is ur using that requires upgrade to artilery, i have no idea. I don't use seige units at all, only range units.

Like others have said Field Cannons do have a 2 tile range. However Machine Guns (which Field Cannons upgrade to) only have 1. There is a good chance the OP upgraded without realising this.

You can change the Machine Gun range to 2 as I have in the files just to help keep things consistant. And it actually makes sense I think as a city attack is 2 range as well which uses a Machine Gun animation right?
