rise and fall and gathering storm?
Is it worth buying these? I'm just getting into the game again a while after release. Seems pricey but I really like complete games (all content) so I'm torn as to what to do.

Gathering Storm will give you all gameplay features from R&F (loyalty, ages, governors and so on), you will only miss on Civs/leaders and wonders if you don't own R&F. The smart move is to buy GS now if you want then R&F on a sale to get the Civs and wonders.

It’s a great game, with Gathering Storm it might be the best game in the series.

I didn't like R&F
GS is better and fixes a few things I didn't like with R&F

I'd buy GS or both, not R&F alone.

Is it possible to play the GS civs on R&F background alone (or R&F with the GS Civs?)

No. Many GS civs involve units or mechanics that don't exist outside of GS and so would be incompatible with previous versions.

I'd say yes, just to get the Civs.
Mongolia is pretty fun, but GS is the better one if you can play it without RF (something I'm not personally sure about).

You definitely can play GS without R+F.

Too bad. I was looking forward to choosing among an expanded array of factions in R&F.

So much for compatibility. Disappointing.

tks for the reply, though, I won't waste my time trying

But then, how come original R&F factions are playable in GS, if they are incompatible with one another?

Because the mechanics that the R+F civs utilize are in GS, so it's not incompatible in that direction.

It is worth buying both. Both has its advantages. For example, R&F introduced loyalty, governor, etc which I deem has made the game more exciting and challenging. Gathering Storm has introduced nature’s climate to make the game more realistic. In addition, GS has introduced Road, strategic resource accumulation l, and others to make the game more exciting. Only big thing that is missing in Civ 6 is a gigantic earth map to play all the civilisations in one game.

I can confirm that with just GS, you get the loyalty/governors things, not sure what civs are from R&F as I never got it... I thought what I played was just GS (and no R&F) but now knowing that GS has bits of R&F in it i'm not sure why GS costs so much, like it is quite expensive for what it adds.

Also not sure what I'm missing out on from R&F content- but eitherway I won't be going back to the base version. The weather elements are pretty fun, and the AI in trade shows a 'grievance' value which is nice.

The AI struggles with rising oceans quite a bit, i maxed out the ocean rising it seems- which is a shame, I wanted to flood the map :)
