You really don't help me...
As I wrote, I make it. I deselect from syncing the folder MyDocuments but when I start the game, Onedrive try to sync the folder My Games which is into the MyDocuments.
Also I deleted the folder My Games from both web Onedrive and the Onedrive of my pc. Then I started the game and I saw that Onedrive create a new folder on My Documents and star the sync.
I think the problem is from the game. There is a default path to create the folder into Onedrive.
The path is C/users/my name/ Onedrive/MyDocuments/My Games
It can be moved and reference point changed and anything looking for the reference point will find it.
Steam asks your windows system for "My Games" it didnt create it, nor does it care where physically it is stored.
Its default location is My Documents in all Windows systems.
You have One Drive set to upload My Documents.
You can do one of the following:
1. Change OneDrive
2. Change MyDocuments
3. Change My Games.
Nothing about what you are asking is relative to anything this or other games can do for you.
You may want to try googling how to move your windows 10 "My" reference points.
Thanks for your help.
I already be in touch with Microsoft about how to move the folder My Games.
Also, I can't understand what do you mean "Change" on Change OneDrive, Change MyDocuments, Change My Games. What can I actually to do?
Sorry.
Basically you need to look into whether OneDrive can be configured to do what you want. This is NOT a game problem, but as others have mentioned, a OneDrive issue.
I think your are wrong, both of you.
It is not an Onedrive issue. I was asking Microsoft's Onedrive and they told me that I can choose which folder I would like to sync or not and I can move the folder outside of Onedrive to prevent the sync. The problem exist, because the game (steam) create or use the folder "My Games" which is into "My Documents". Onedrive the only a thing that can do is to sync or not what you want.
The problem starts because the game Civ6 (Steam) creates a folder into "My documents" by default.
And this is what Im looking for and asking for. How to change this...
Is it possible the game creates or use the folder which is on another folder? not into "My Documents" but out of it?
This happens to all Windows systems. When the game starts try to find the folder "My Documents" and automatically creates or use the folder "My Games".
When I unsync the folder "My Games" and run the game, a message of Onedrive saying that "Onedrive can't sync some files"
When I move the folder "My Games" out of "My documents" and start the game, another folder "My Games" created into "My Documents". Its crazy...
I you use your Onedrive, try to unsync or remove the folder "My Games" and you can see what happens.
You wanting the game devs to change their game now to use only the Steamapps/common folder instead can lead to many issues for all users of said game.
It is basically something that they need to make happen before releasing the game and not after.
If it happens, its very sad. Devs and Steam producers should let the users decide for the "My Games" location. Not by default into the "My Documents" folder.
All Windows users sync their documents by Onedrive. But some of them maybe don't want to sync their games data.
You don't seem to have noticed, but this is confirmation from Microsoft that we are right. Reread it, please.
A) "they told me that I can choose which folder I would like to sync or not"
B) "I can move the folder outside of Onedrive to prevent the sync"
This is exactly what we've told you. Either A) you stop OneDrive from syncing the folder, or B) you move the folder to a location that OneDrive doesn't sync.
What you need to do now is have someone from Microsoft or Microsoft's forum help you do one of those properly.
This is not the right way to look at the problem, or the right way to solve it. Most games that need to save user files use the My Games folder. If you were able to change Civ VI to store its files in another location, then you'd just have this same problem some time in the future with another game. You need to fix the actual problem (OneDrive syncing the My Games folder), not the symptom (OneDrive syncing Civ Vi files).
Note that Civ VI does not create the My Games folder in the My Documents folder. Civ VI stores files in the My Games folder, wherever it is. Windows defines where that folder is located, which by default is in My Documents. If you want to change where My Games is located, then you can do that - but it is a function of making a change to Windows, not a change you would make in Civ VI. There is no way to change Civ VI to move the (proper) My Games folder somewhere else.
You'll have to take up the meaning of that error message and the solution for it with OneDrive support. I can't help you resolve OneDrive issues.
It is not crazy. The solution you are attempting is wrong. You can't just move the My Games folder, because Windows keeps track of where it is supposed to be. When a game wants to save a file to My Games, it asks Windows where it is located, and Windows tells the game the path to the location it should be, and that is where the game saves the file. You should not move the folder yourself; you need to tell Windows to move the folder, so that the folder will be in the new location and also Windows will start telling games to save files in the new location.
The details of how to do this are something you should take up with Microsoft support.
I don't use OneDrive, and although there may be some people in this forum who do, they may not be a majority, and also there's no guarantee that any of them know how to help you...
... which is why you need to ask for help on the OneDrive forum, where literally everyone uses OneDrive and many of them are likely to be knowledgeable enough to guide you through solving your problem.
B) All Windows users do not sync their documents with OneDrive. Many Windows users use older versions of Windows that do not include OneDrive, and those who do use newer versions of Windows can opt out of OneDrive if they choose.
C) We've told you what you need to do to stop syncing your game data (in general terms, because we don't have the details). Now you need to pick one of the solutions we offered and find someone who knows the details to help you through the process. If we knew the details we'd just help you here, but we don't, so you'll need to ask elsewhere.
Click on the OneDrive 'Cloud' icon then 'Help & Settings' 'Settings' then go across to the Backup tab - hit manage back up and then click on the Document button to remove it from syncing automatically.
Then you can remove these files from OneDrive and you still have the game files on the computer for you to use.
