Sea Trade Routes
I have two cities both on the coast.
One is on an island.
Both have harbors built.
The cities are 29 tiles from each other. The harbors are 2 tiles closer than that.
Yet I cant make a route between these cities.
According to the docs, sea routes within 30 tiles should connect, yet I cant do it.
What have I missed?

Are you counting 29 tiles as the crow flies? My guess would be that the route must be 30 tiles or less, and perhaps an obstruction (like a mountain range) is in the way and pathing around it will make the route longer than 30 tiles.

How do you make sea trade routes in civ6? I thought that was only in civ5.

As soon as you research the proper tech or civic, trade routes will take the sea if that is the best route.

So you cant produce a spesific sea trader unit. thats what i thought. So there isnt any sea traders units in civ6, why are you talking about civ5 units?

I don't see anyone having mentioned sea units, just sea routes. There are no land traders or sea traders, just traders.

Btw, the tech that allows traders to embark is "Celestial Navigation"
... and since Celestial Navigation is also the tech that unlocks harbors, and he said his cities have harbors, that should mean that having a trader start a route that requires it to cross water should be possible if the route is otherwise legal.

Do you perhaps need "Cartography" to cross ocean tiles to make it within a close enough distance?

So, did "you" discover all the tiles straight between the 2 harbors, or was the terrain shown to you by virtue of being a city state suzerain? If "you" have not explored that with your units, it is not considered "discovered", even if you can see all the terrain.

Shot in the dark, but I've made that mistake.

I have finished the tech and civ trees.
This is a very late game I am playing.
Straight shot from one city to another. Even if I veer a bit to go around its within 30 tiles.
It should work. But I bet pathing is screwy.
Looks like I need to make a waypoint, which sucks since all I have in between is one tile islands.
Gonna need to starve the pop to keep the city from growing.
