No option to reverse climate change
Honestly, why is reversing climate change not a thing? Why even include the future era? Just fpr those upgrades for the stupidly overpowered robots? Even more frustrating given that the AI does not give a fig about climate change! The only time that I got a resolution in World Congress that aimed at reducing CO2 emissions, it was when I had reached Climate Change Level. This is just LAZY. I had such high hopes for the gathering storm expansion and it has proven, time and time again, to be half-hearted and not thought through.

Level 8, I'm sorry.
Not being able to reverse climate change within the time frame that the game depicts is probably fairly realistic, although we have not yet reached the point where we realize that. However, in terms of the game, the effects of climate change are so minor that being unable to reverse it essentially doesn't matter. Don't build important things on tiles that will flood/submerge and you can effectively pollute all you want without significant consequence.

Well if the mechanic does not matter, why include it at al?

Erm, there is a late game project to combat climate change.

Yea but essentially it's just a devise used to get diplomacy points late game, it lowers your CO2, but doesn't reverse any effects, the ice melts so fast that by the time you get this its too late, and you are stuck at 85% ice melted until the end, I think the OP was wanting to reverse that, and maybe have the ice reform, and sea level lower? If they can have big giant death robots, then they can have some fantasy climate mechanics as well.

Flavor?

It isn't that it doesn't matter at all, but rather than simple strategies mean that you don't need to be afraid of it and that it won't damage your ability to win. It does matter, though, because if you ignore it completely - such as by settling cities on vulnerable tiles and then not building barriers - it will interfere with you.

I managed to stop the 2nd melting at 10 turns to go and reduced the total CO2 by about 2000 from over 5000 to just over 3000, with the CO2 removal City projects late in a game, before I finally got a Scientific Victory around year 1912. I was also about 281 out of 351 Visiting Tourists, so I was about 80% of a Cultural Victory, as well as having control of 3 other Civ Capitals, with their Civs totally DEAD and conquered by me. I was playing at the Prince level on a HUGE Fractal Map with 2 large continents connected by a land bridge.

It’s true that you can’t reverse climate change but you can protect your cities in different ways from what’s coming, I believe that what it’s all about.
