Envoys
The game tells me I have an Envoy but nowhere does it say what to do with him/her/it. What am I missing? How do I assign an Envoy?

basically you find a city state, click on it and a sub menu with details of that city state will come up. On that, there will be an option to apply Envoys to gain influence of that city state.

I don't get that option. Closest I get is to send a delegation for 25 gold. However, I just noticed the Manual on the links list. I'll see if that helps. Thanks.

<edit>
Well, that was useless. No search function for the manual. Maybe I'll have to suffer through the tutorial...

25 gold is for a major civ, you need to go to the city state screen

Yes, that's where it was. The menu has a choice to send a delegation to gain influence. Unless I am misunderstanding "city state." Rome, France, etc, the AI cities, are the city states, are they not?

Started up a game to give you a better idea, far top right of the screen, there is a series of faces, those are major civ, go right there is a series of blue 'buttons' one looks like a planet with leaves under it, the next should look like a capital building. Hover over it and it should say city states

No such button. It seems like I have an Envoy before I found any city states. Does that make sense? (It doesn't to me)

Yes it does, it can happen. Did you hit a hut bychance?
The Great Gazoo Mar 6, 2019 @ 3:36pm
hit a hut=attack a barbarian city? If so, yes. I also see messages saying unmet city state has been defeated
So, in 6 you shouldn't just wipe out barbarian cities? I've been playing 4, so there's a lot of changes

There are no barbarian cities. You have huts (also known as goodie huts). You have barbarian encampments where barbarians come from (kill those), you have major civs (they have faces on the top of the screen), you have free cities (take those), and you have city states that give you bonuses from envoys.

Take huts as fast as you can. Cities have a colored border around them

Thank you very much for the assistance.

Press F2 to open the City-States management screen, you gonna see a list of all City-States with arrow buttons to send envoys to that City-States. Choose which one you want to send, add the envoy, confirm on the green button at the bottom.

A better place to learn this kind of basic stuff is on the fandom wikia:
