Anyway to kill rockband?
I have a rock band that's just destroying my religion in my own city, is there anyway to kill it without going to war with the owner?

Not that I know of. If you start an inquisition and make some inquisitors then undoing the damage should be relatively easy. Eventually the rock band is going to break up, or at least be forced to move to somewhere else when it is played at every available venue.

these things are a plague definitely the worst thing they added to the game. it's not just the annoying music playing every turn either these things can and will cause your cities (including your capital) to revolt. if you see them risk the war to get rid of them...

They can be killed but it's tough/luck. Using a special ops unit on the coast you can "priority target" them. you will have to be on the coast in position and they must be just offshore.

There is a policy card that makes your civ immune to rock bands, but you take an amenities hit.
Aside from actually killing them with spec ops units, if you are at war you can kick them back to their nearest friendly city by moving into their space with any military unit.

Unless you are going to war with that civ anyway, the Inquisition is probably the easiest way to deal with the situation... although, banning rock music (as gtomkins1 just mentioned) also works and has the added benefit of preventing that civ from getting tourism from you at all. If you have access to that policy card (it is unlocked by the Atomic era civic Space Race) then that might be even better.

Why would a rock band cause a city to revolt? I don't have Gathering Storm. It seems I shouldn't get it. I was thinking of rebuying Civ VI on Xbox now really leary since this doesn't seem like fun.

Normally a rock band doesn't interact with religion or loyalty. However, there are promotions that will allow it to do so. There is one promotion that will cause the city the rock band plays in to convert to the religion you founded, and another promotion that will cause the city to lose 50 loyalty.

These sound like powerful abilities, and in the right situation they can be, but it is important to realize that usually they have little-to-no impact on the game. Using an Inquisitor to reconvert one of your own cities is trivial; effectively the rock band has only cost you one Inquisitor charge. Recovering from the loyalty decrease is only an issue if the city is already losing loyalty; most cities have positive loyalty pressure, and may recover that lost loyalty rather quickly. Unless your opponent is in a situation where converting a city or lowering its loyalty will have a significant impact, you are probably better off choosing one of the other promotions that will increase the ability of your rock band to survive (which neither of those aforementioned promotions do).

Launching an Inquisition does give you a science penalty though, so it’s not always feasible in a tight science race

You are thinking of the dark age policy card Inquisition, which allows you to start an Inquisition with only one Apostle charge and gives a +15 religious strength boost to your religious units in friendly territory, at the cost of a 25% penalty to science output.

If you don't use that card, and use a 3-charge Apostle to start an Inquisition, then you can buy Inquisitors but there is no science penalty. Naturally, you also do not gain the other benefits of the Inquisition dark age policy card.

I am under the impression that Rock Bands can be attacked by religious units. Have you tried attacking them with Apostles? If that does not work then try Inquisitors. If you are that concerned about your Religion, you ought to already have Inquisitors to fight off other religions.

Maybe, my impression is only true of a Mod. Try looking at Mods.

That is definitely not a feature of the unmodded game.
