"The bait was delicious, but it lacked substance. Like, it was literally hollow inside. Wtf? 2 stars."

I don't know that it was best, but I have a lot of fond memories playing Civ II.

A lot of people say that but for me Civ II was a complete failure. The graphics were so bad compared to the first game... Almost no improvements from the first game either, mostly what we would consider "bug fixes" in this time and age. The only one thing Civ II really had were those animated videos when you built wonders.

Civ III is where the game really kicked out from the depth.

IV is when CIV at its peak.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. If you put 10 people in a room and ask what is their favourite civ game you will get 11 different answers. There is no definitive resolution to this, just endless opinion and circular argument. If that is what you want then fine.

My own opinion is that there is no "best" civ game, all have something to offer and all have significant flaws. The older ones are of their time and can seem rather dated now. If you like it then play and enjoy it rather than wasting that time posting here.

Two was definitely revolutionary for its time. Especially since it came out on consoles as well. I remember the save files basically took up an entire memory stick, lol.

If you ask me, though, three and four were direct improvements over their predecessors. Five has a lot of things I like, but the change to one unit per tile was where the AI took a real hit. So five leaves me with mixed feelings, even when I'm enjoying a modded campaign of it. I liked the change from doomstacks to 1UPT, but the trade-off was hard to swallow.

I can't say you are wrong, as I don't remember much about CIV 2

Civ 2 was a slightly improved 1, but the peak of the series was definitely 4 for me!

Civ 1 was so much better than civ 2.

If this was true, why are more people playing 6 than 2? Hmm?

I cobbled together an old Dell PC from dumpster diving a local office park, for my first PC that I didn't have to share with the rest of the family. It was a 386 and I "upgraded" to Win95 by borrowing a friend's dad's license. I played Civ II for HOURS at a time and it wasn't until months later that I was able to scrounge a sound card for the thing and I remember being blown away by the sound track.

I loved the Wonder movies and FMV leader videos. "Get a clue, discover TRADE!"

ha. I did something like this to play Starflight 2 and Sentinel Worlds 1:Future Magic in 1989. It had 512k ram, no hard drive, used Dos 3.2, only had CGA graphics. Oh, you made me reminisce.

The one good thing about Civilization 2 was the videos of the advisors. Those were the best advisors I've ever seen in a game, especially the Elvis one for approval. You can see them on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFQDeYXq_iw
