Do I need any DLCs to enjoy CIV6?
Been thinking of buying this game but I heard that you need DLCs to have an enjoyable experience and I don't really want to have to spend extra money on a DLC that could possibly go toward a new game

if you look at the reviews for civ6 dlc theyre all negative, thats what stopped me from buying them.

Yes, the Civ 5 DLC will fix Civ 6.

I only started playing Civ6 once I added the Rise and Fall DLC. In my opinion, I can't imagine playing it without all the features it introduced. Dark Ages and Golden Ages, and the Historic Moments and Era Score to earn them are a big influence in how I play the game. The Loyalty mechanics are fun, and add an important strategic consideration to where I build my cities (and what happens to enemies who build nextdoor to my metropolis).

I really like Rise and Fall. But I got Civ6 for about $12 in a Humble Bundle, and got Rise and Fall for about $20. I can't say whether I'd be willing to fork out a hundred bucks for the pair, although I'm certainly approaching that many hours spent enjoying it.

What Whimper said. My system wouldn't play it for about 6 months, but when I got back into it, I really enjoyed it... then I realized Rise and Fall had come out, so I bought that. I did enjoy the "vanilla" version just fine, but the Rise and Fall expansion felt like it was almost a new game entirely. TL; DR version: NO, you don't need the DLC, but YES, it's worth buying.

The DLCs don't really do much wrong, it just expands on concepts in the game and gives your play-through a bit more personality. Gathering Storm just seems to build on the good features R&F had and make some really interesting Civs that work around previous and new concepts.

+1 vote for Rise & Fall. The game was too bland for tastes at launch, but R&F added enough subsystems for my tastes.

The general leader/civ DLC? Hell no. They aren't anywhere near the value to be worth it. However, if you can get R&F and GS with the game (say during a large sale) for around 60-80, i would say that you get more than your monies worth.

to be honest i own all the dlc they are really good and do deserver credit however they are different from the game its self, making it more of a different entitty then what it is.

In the update next week, won't most of the Rise and Fall features like loyalty and governors be part of the main game or at least Gathering Storm? Since Gathering Storm introduces several civs that rely on these features.

Like the expansions for Civ5, GS will include all gameplay features from R&F, but not the other content (civs, wonders etc).

Rise and Fall adds a lot to the game. It gives the game a lot more depth. All the other DLC is just additional countries and leaders. You don't really need them unless you get bored with the ones included in the game.
