How long until grievances go away from a defeated civ?
I defeated a civ, he's out of the game, but cities are still getting loyalty hits from grievances he has against me. How long until it goes away? I can't check the decay because he's not in game any more.

Oh. Yay. Well, good to know, at least.

But you can get rid of the Grievances against your Civ that the remaining Civs in the game see that cause bad relations with them, by NOT KEEPING its LAST City, when you KILL that Civ (by either Liberating it or getting it to revolt to a Free City). This DOES work, I have taken advantage of it many times.

added: It (the -10 to Loyalty in captured Cities of Dead Civs) is NOT a BUG, it is a delibrate game design choice by the GMs, since Dead Civs can be revived by another Civ capturing a City from a DEAD Civ and LIBERATING it to Revive that Civ. (So do not put much hope in seeing it changed in the future, if we are lucky maybe they will make it fade away over time).

I checked one of my games, and I was still getting the -10 to Loyalty in my captured Cities, although I was not getting the hit to my relations with other Civs, in a game were I followed the above method of killing off a Civ.

So take a different viewpoint, and regard it as an Opportunity: any City that another Civ captured from a 3rd (or 4th etc) Civ that is now Dead will have that -10 to Loyalty in it, which will make it much easier for you to flip into revolt by you putting enough Loyalty Pressure on it. Of course, once you get that City, then YOU will have to deal with that -10 to Loyalty, but that happens with every captured City. Once you own all of the cities in a region, you can live with the problem for the rest of the game, without Heroic efforts to keep them, and the governors can be used elsewhere, in your NEXT conquest.

Cities that were ceded as part of a Peace Treaty will probably be different regarding that -10 to Loyalty.
