How do I close my borders?
I've researched Early Empire but I see no way of closing my borders. I have no open-border agreements yet these religious units are free to move from town to town spreading their stinking doctrines throughout my lands! I want to give those knuckleheads the boot, ASAP.

I wanted to get Taoism for my people but I can't figure out how to do that either...how do i go about getting that philosophy to my people?

Borders close without any action once EE is completed. Religious units ignore borders, however, so your means of halting their infiltration are to engage them in theological combat or declare war and use the military unit option “condemn heretic.”

I presume Taoism is a religion founded by another civ in the game you’re playing?

Ok, I'll see if I can find a mod that prevents religious units from crossing my borders.

The only thing the "civilopedia" (lol) says about Taoism is that the Chinese leader is a follower of Taoism.

No religion name, as with its symbol or beliefs, is locked to any particular faction. Taoism will only spread to your cities if you, or someone else, founds a religion and chooses that for its name. The historical facts/information found in the ‘pedia don’t necessarily have bearing or relevance to any particular play-through.

I'll also add that if you start a religion and get it placed in your cities, the AI is far more likely to leave you alone. They cross the borders but almost only just to travel elsewhere.

It's counterintuitive, but you end up with a ton more religious traffic when you don't have a religion of your own.

As for finding a mod, you may find one but it seems really lame if you have a game with religious victory and the AI can't cross your borders (but I'm guessing that would mean you can't cross theirs either). In any game with more than 4 civs, it's almost impossible for an AI to win by religion anyway, so it doesn't matter much if they can cross your borders unless you find it visually annoying.

That only means that China favors Taoism. If China found a religion, they will choose Taoism if available. Taoism will only exist in a game if someone found it, either you or the AI. The name itself is only for flavor, you pic a name when you found a religion and you can create a custom name.

Read this to get an overhaul idea of how religion works in Civ VI:
https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Religion_(Civ6)

There's a limited amount of religions that can be founded, so not every Civ will found a religion. You need a great prophet to found one, so it's a race to unlock a great prophet, you need to invest on getting one soon or you won't have a religion of your own. You get one through great prophet points, given by Holy sites and its buildings, plus other alternative sources. You can also use faith or gold to pay for the remaining points and unlock the great prophet faster. Building a Holy site will also give you access to the Holy Site Prayers project. You can find it at the bottom of the production menu on your city. Use it to turn your production into more faith and great prophet points, useful to rush a great prophet and get a religion. Once you get a Great Prophet, put him on top of your holy site to found your religion (a button that do that will show up).

Press O to go to the Great People window. There you can see how much great prophet points each Civ is generating and who already got one. Press L to go to the Religions window and see how many religions already exist and what are this religions.

Once you have your religion and a temple built on your holy site, you will be able to build apostles. Apostles can "fight" other religious units (it's more like a religious debate), just like military units, same rules apply, so you use them to defend against religious units of other religions. You can also use an apostle to start an inquisition, which will allow you to build inquisitors, units that are strong on your cities that follow your religion but weak out of your territory or in any city that follow other religion. You can also declare a war and put your military unit over a religious unit to get the option to condemn heretic (delete the religious unit).

If you still didn't found a religion, don't worry about missionaries going to your territory, they can't harm you, quite the opposite. When you found your religion, every city that has a holy site will be converted to your religion, so it won't matter if someone converted it to other religion before. After that you can build missionaries of your own to convert the remaining of your cities, or even better, start an Inquisition and use inquisitors, they are more efficient and they can fight (missionaries can only defend). If all religions were founded and therefore you won't be able to found one, then you need to accept whatever religion goes to your territory. The only way to get another religion to spread on your territory is if you have a city with a Holy Site that follow that religion, then you can build missionaries and apostles of that religion.
