Why is UI Upscaling greyed out ?
I play on an ultra wide screen, and want to increase tiny text to actually u know read it (3840 x 1080 res)

And it says "only at some resolutions"? - Just why?

Just a bug introduced with a recent patch (only just started playing civ 6) or incompetent coding?, am i missing something obvious?

The option is greyed out because it is not available at the resolution you have selected.

I don't know why the option is only available at some resolutions, but I speculate that there is some technical limitation of their implementation of the scaling that would cause it to either malfunction or function poorly at other resolutions. For example, having the game scale the UI on-the-fly might have been found to have too great a performance impact, and they might have compromised by using pre-scaled UI elements at some resolutions they felt would be common. The result would be no performance impact with UI scaling at the chosen resolutions, but with the drawback that UI scaling would not be available at any other resolutions.

In any case, this isn't a bug, nor is it a recent change. UI scaling has always only been available at certain resolutions.

You essentially have two choices: to use UI scaling at one of the resolutions that supports it, or to forgo UI scaling.

Ah so incompetent coding - Otherwise changing UI scale would ether present no noticeable impact to performance, or would be an option which is an option on a wide range of games (endless series) and are not an option in this one...

At least i can rule out missing something obvious. - and realize i was 100% spot on by NOT getting this game on pre-order & waited till a steam sale showed up

I got UI up scaling at 3820 by 2160 resolution (what is commonly called 4k TV) and it works fine (the upscaling).

Sorry but setting upscale according to Res is just stupid - what about people with bad eyesight / disabilities etc - I already spotted a hack that i will try out that unlocks the setting...

So why not just put that out as a patch for the main game from the dev?, as i said ether incompetent - or prehaps just plain lazy, but meh - The new iceberg game should give the civ builder games a shake up

I think likely it is linked to res height. And probably at the standard 1080 increasing all the window heights will not leave room for the entire interface to function/fit properly.

Also, do you mean Humankind? If so, that is not Iceberg, but Amplitude/Sega. Or does Iceberg have something coming as well?

I would be grateful if developers were listing those resolutions that allow UI upscaling rather than having all users interested in this option having to try out all settings until they are lucky to find one that works.
It would be appreciated by the growing numbers of elder player.

I think it might be greyed out while in game, but if you exit to the main menu, you can change it. At least that worked for me, it was greyed out while in game but I could change UI scaling to 100%, 150%, or 200% while in the main menu.

biggest issue about grey scaling , is if it matters enough for a group of people spending your money to care and patch it. enjoy the Login window though and read every advert you did not agree to have on your system

at this moment, you will understand why it was not patch fixed.

however try Scaling the UI , there is many patch fixes for it. by Players. if you do a search. though you will have to Know how to get to the area to add your own "personal" scripts to make the game run

and there is a script patch to End the login window
