If it's still having problems, close civ 6, manually if necessary, click library tab above on this window, right click civ 6 in the manifest at left, select properties, then local files tab, then verify integrity of game files. That will repair if a file is somehow corrupt.
If that doesn't work, you have some other conflict, like maybe gpu driver update? i dunno yet, before you respond, shut down the machine appropriately and completely, turn it back on and try launching steam and civ 6, but make sure any other game service like Origin is closed in the background from the task manager before you launch the game.
Just press the the reset button on your computer.
Origin isn't the greatest piece of code to start with, and this QtWebEngineProcess runs away more often than not. It seems to have a memory leak in it, and it seems to loop occasionally, resisting being shut down, and gobbling up more and more resources. I think because it conflicts with some blockers and firewalls. You can end up with 3 or 4 of them running and thashing your computer, but i'm not going to open up my computer to viruses and hacks because Firaxis can't get their ♥♥♥♥ together.
It has a far far larger footprint than it should have for such a simple task. It is also completely redundant if you bought the game through Steam.
I realize game piracy is a problem, but this is a truly evil piece of code that needs to be removed from the game or at least not run if the game is started via Steam. On my computer it just makes the game unplayable, and my fans start screaming, unless I kill the process(es) after I go in, which is just a PITA, so I don't play it now.
I was really looking forward to the expansion, but no way am I getting it now.
So it appears to me that 2k is losing customer base sentiment because this piece of software is acting like a memory leak in a background process. Many people treat PCs like their consoles or microwaves, you just should be able to pop in a disk or push buttons and it does as it's told, they have little to no understanding of the way things work. Is that a little on them? Well, maybe... maybe they should spend a little more time getting acquainted with things, but in the meantime, until people are over this variety of technoshock, the people providing a product should, at least remedially, make it so that it doesn't require a jr college 3 hour computer class to launch and close their game.
This qtwebengineprocess conflict didn't start until the advent of this new launcher, at least certainly not to the extent that it has affected use of the software lately. I honesly have no clue what Firaxis is thinking to not have rectified this by now.
The best solution imo, and the one I'm currently using, is #1. Before doing anything, make sure to backup your save game files by copying the %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VI folder to an external location and/or trusting in your Steam cloud saves.
Note that none of these solutions require you to bypass the 2K launcher.
Fix #1: Every time you want to start Civ 6, delete the database caches first
Open Windows Explorer and navigate to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Cache.
Delete the DebugLocalization.sqlite file.
Delete the DebugLocalization.sqlite-journal file if it exists.
Start Civ 6.
Civ 6 may be stuck at the "Loading, please wait" black screen for a minute or two. You might get the game to load faster by deleting the DebugGameplay.sqlite and DebugGameplay.sqlite-journal files as well.
Downside: you don't have to turn off OneDrive or change any settings, but you do have to delete these cache files every time you want to start Civ 6.
this worked for me. here is the link to the website i used for other options. hope this helped an good luck.
