-but you need windows 10 to run it (won't run on win 7 or 8)
-and you'll need a GPU supporting it (basicly most cards newer than 2016, when in doupt check if yours has support for it)
-960 is in the list of supporting it (though of the 9xx series only the 980ti and 980 have full dx12 support.... the 960 has 11.2 support (meaning it does support dx 12, but not all features)
-> but it most likely will work.
But that's because I don't have a supported (or "recommended") graphics card working on my PC. The factory Intel graphics card on my 7 year old laptop is just barely good enough to run Civ 6 on DX 11 in 2D mode. It runs but stutters too badly to run in 3D mode.
It's funny because Civ 6 can run on the Intel graphics card, but Civ 5 can't. Oh well, I pretty much gave up on Civ 5 when I got Civ 6 anyway.
I'm playing with:
ASUS ROG GL753VD
Core i7 7700HQ 2.80 Ghz
1 TB SSD nVme
16 GB RAM
GeForce GTX 1050 4 GB VRAM
Windows 10 1909
I use all full graphics for this test and the biggest map on game.
DirectX 12
Benchmark little bit higher than DirecX 11 so... its not a real difference (2ms difference)
CPU temperature 85 C°
GPU temperature: 70 C°
Visual experience and game flow same as DirectX 11...
DirectX 12
Benchmark little bit lower than DirecX 11 so... its not a real difference (2ms difference)
CPU temperature 81 C°
GPU temperature: 68 C°
Visual experience and game flow same as DirectX 12...
In conclution (in my pc)
I´ve been playing good on both and the only difference I've noticed is that DirectX 12 usea much resources and I imagine thats why Direct 12 raise the temperature further on the system.
If you have a Powerfull PC I recomend Direct 12 unless you expect a video issue running the game.
:)
I think its not for graphical improvements but for game performance, because DX12 makes that the game in deed be capable tu use or acces to all CPU cores when the game is makeing logical and not graphical decitions.
Actually thats why if your computer do not have a good ventilation system, with DX12 CPU and GPU temperature will be heading around 90 °C :(
Does this game's dx 11 = 11.2 or just 11.0?
