If you plan to play multi-player, however, then yeah-ish, it's a great game in general it's just the AI that ruins it.
I got it in a sale for 70% off and I feel it was *just* worth it. At full price? No way. If they fixed the AI a bit (at least have it upgrade it's units!) then I'd be answering yes to the OP question.
AI always upgrades in my games. Are you running any mods? Still haven’t seen any anti air units though.
Is it worth E60? No.
Can't tell much about a game, is preaty. Nice to see Civ so preaty, that for sure. If you are a fan this is good argument to spend money. I like new mechanics too.
Cons so far: Actualy im posting here 'cos it crash to desktop, second time today.
Don't rush, wait for a price that you can afford. I still haven't played enough of civ5 and I want to go back to play older civs too.
Now I'm waiting for 70% off for Rise and Fall pack in near future.
Ultimately noone can tell you what price YOU should pay for this game to get what YOU consider to be good value. Everyone sees value differently.
For me I've had hundreds of hours of fun out of this (and pretty much every other Civ game) so I consider it excellent value for money. The only game I can think of where I feel I've had value even close to Civ V or Civ VI in the last half a decade is Skyrim.
Yes the concept of the game isn't radically different from the other Civ games, it is a new itteration not a reinvention, that said there are some really great changes in Civ VI (inc expansion) such as:
Agendas - Each leader has 1 set agenda linked to their specific character and one random agenda which is revealed through having high enough diplomatically visilibility. Whilst leader AI isn't perfect this does help replayability as leaders will respond differently to you depending on the actions of your civ.
Builders - Builders replace Workers from previous games and have limited charges. In my opinion this is a great change and allows you to manage your civilians more efficiently.
Culture & Research - You get logical boosts to specific cultural or science items based on what you have done in game so far, for example you get a huge boost to researching sailing if you've founded a city on the coast.
Districts - Districts have a huge impact on how you play the game doing a much better job of forcing you to specialise your cities and to think more strategically. Districts have ruined old Civ games for me because I just can't go back to not having them any more.
Emergencies - Emergencies are called when significant hostile events happen such as attempting to wipe out another civilisation or religion, for all those involved (or that chose to involve themselves) there are modifiers in place during the events with an often significant reward for the winning side.
Espionage - Spying has been refined and works nicely with districts forcing you to pick your targets for both 'attacking' and 'defending'.
Policy cards - Policy cards replace Social Policies from Civ V and allow you much more flexibility in terms of how you customise your civilisation and your government.
Unit groups - Stacks are managed differently, now at certain tech levels you can merge 2 or 3 units of the same time in to a group, this allows you to develop past being limited to 1 unit per hex but without them becoming stacks of doom.
Personally I find that these changes make the game feel different enough to previous titles that it feels like something new yet isn't radically different to such a degree that it doesn't feel like a Civ game any more.
I think two of the biggest issues a lot of people have had with this game (without the whole red shell thing) are:
The AI. When the game first came out the AI being poor got grouped in with the issues around warmongering with every Civ seeming to want to declare war on you and somehow you looking like the bad guy and your name being mud throughout all of time. It is much better now and there are plenty of mods which further change AI behaviour in this regard should you want. I'm not going to say the AI is great, it isn't, but honestly at this stage I don't actually think it's any worse than Civ V and on the higher difficulties I find the AI keeps me on my toes nicely.
The artstyle. So the artstyle is more 'cartoony' than Civ V. Asthetics are always going to be a personal thing, you will either like them or not. Personally I do quite like them but I've never felt the graphics to be that important for a Civ game although I was a little unsure at first because I did love how Civ V looked. I do find I can more quickly identify different terrain, resources and units in Civ VI than in Civ V so for me the artstyle isn't an issue.
I don't mind paying full price if I see it's worth it too me, but after Civ IV, I wait. Civ V was a joke on release. I waited. Same for Civ VI. It seems it's just as much of a joke. At least Civ V was fixed to be one of the best games ever for me, but sadly I don't see this in Civ VI yet. Will it happen? Time will tell.
Will be back later and see how things go. See you guys later.:)
In some of my plays, I prefer to turn off all of dlcs and play a vanilla game. It's fun. Buy a base game, paly it and then when you like it wait for dlcs price drop. Don't forget there is a demo too.
It helped me very much so i will wait for a sale then.
Meanwhile i will play on civ IV ;)
Thx again...have fun :)
But well, if you don't like the game concept anymore, then don't buy the game.
I think its also about jutifying the cost of the game to yourself... A couple of nights on the rocks £60+ and night over... You pay £60.00 here and you have a game forever. I haven't played civ since civ 2 hahah when it was all 2d. I rekon Id go back to that anyday over this one hahahaha
