Good alternatives to CIV6 without spyware to buy?
As they gme is a no-no in my book now, can you suggest any similar games to buy instead? Also, do older versions of Civ and other games of the company contain this unwanted software/download it?

Older Civ games have not been updated at all recently.

For example Civ: Beyond Earth hasn't been updated. (You may still have to agree to 2K's EULA but IDK if Red Shell has been added).

Also maybe Civ 5?

If you want to stear clear of 2K and Faraxis, but stay turn based I would recommend...

Endless Legend
Galactic Civilizations 3
Age of Wonders 3
Master of Orion
Endless Space 2
The Banner Saga

Civ V should be fine.

Sadly ain't too many 4X games that have history as genre.

There is a trade off. The internet is spyware, in one form or another. I don't like that Firaxis is doing this, but I'm not going to stop playing the game because of it. This will bite them in the butt at some point and the sooner the better. It's like I used to fret over passwwords and emials, but there isn't anything important I use it for, so, so what. I don't like being tracked and there is nothing realistic I can do about it. It's the way the internet works.

I don't think it's the major choice you need to make on if you should or shouldn't get it. I'd say yes, with all the dlc and some choice mods. It's better then when it started and still has a ways to go, but it's better then when it started.

It's a Federal crime if someone messes with my mail. I like that. Food for thought? Vote.

The internet works by sharing information... not stealing it. You generally consent to give up information in exchange for a service. Services can't function without information sharing.

Red Shell does not provide me any specific services.

Total War, Civ and Xcom are my choice of strategy games. Its good mix.

Master of Orion should be good alternative to Civ. Its true 4X game.

Let's be realistic everyone.....if you use the internet normally, have google, microsoft or Apple programs, use a smartphone either Android or Apple you are being spied on...yes there are ways of easing it back a bit but in this day and age Big brother is watching you....

That's not the point.

What Firaxis is doing is illegal and people have every right to call out these practices.

We can't be too sure. We don't even know how long Red Shell has been out there...

I find Endless Space 2 solid. It's quite easy to get going and several events, unique factions to play and the lore are good. Great immersion

Galactic Civilization 3 can be a good choice if you want a more classic 4X Civ style. There is a LOT of customization there but the immersion is quite bad for me.
