Capture Government Plaza?

Can you capture a Government Plaza from another Cic when you capture their Capital City?

If you lose your own Government Plaza because your Capital City got captured, can you start building a new one at your new Capital City?

I'm not sure if the government plaza is destroyed in a captured city, but I'd suspect that it is since you're only allowed 1 government plaza per civilization.

And the answer to your second part is yes - but you have to realize that you don't have to build your government plaza in your capital city, you can build it in any one city in your civilization as long as you haven't met your district cap in that city.

I suspected that it can not be captured, but I have no first hand experience. I suspected that the answer to my 2nd question is yes, but again have no first hand experience.

I haven't got much experience with that district yet, but my first impressions are that it could come handy to put it in a cluster of cities that are a bit more stretched out and away from your capital, so it may function as a beacon of loyalty for those cities... not sure if this is true, though.

There are I guess a couple ways you could go about it.
1 way is to place it in a densely settled area with 3-4 cities very close by so that you can cluster 6 districts surrounding the government plaza (since it gives a +1 adjacency bonus to districts)
Then of course the other one is the one you mention. I hadn't thought about that strategy before now.

When you capture a city, the Government Plaza disappears, tried it for myself.

Too bad. It is odd that the language for some of the Government Plaza buildings is written in a way that says makes it sound like you could build different Plaza Buildings in another Plaza, but then you find out that you can not build another Plaza. Could there be a special Great Person or a governor promotion that would enable you to build another Government Plaza? An interesting idea or question, perhaps someday in the future or in a Mod.

You only need 2 close cities, I do it all the time. If you put your government center in the 2nd ring, so there are 2 hexes between it and your city center, then on the far side of that the second city center, so it's a line of 1-2-1-2-1 those double hexes get +1 from the Govt center and the city center, plus whatever is around them (for me, usually commerce near rivers.

Then you can also fill out the ring with other districts or wonders that add good adjacency bonuses. That's usually how I get +5 or 6 on my Culture districts.

It's also great for counterspy coverage.

If they capture city with government district you just lose it. If you recapture it, the district will be gone.
I know because it happened to me. You can rebuild it though.

I think that is at least one World Wonder that has to be built adjacent to a Government Plaza that gives 3 Governor promotions when built.
