What did Rise and Fall do wrong?
Why do so many people dislike it?

personally, I didn't buy it because the fact the Hall of Fame is still not in, This x-pa would have been the perfect time with the whole timelines feature and I've spent all year litsening to people say "It'll be in the expansion."

they add that in and i'll check it out.

The ones not liking it are not the same ones who have it in many cases

In terms of the negative reviews I've skimmed through, the problems are mostly (by volume) not releasing for Mac at the same time as Windows, and not magically working with all existing mods.

People use steam reviews to complain not review games. There's even people using it like a forum, asking for help to solve technical problems lol. Steam reviews are a sad joke valve should get rid of.

^What leandrombraz said. Steam reviews have sadly turned into echo chamber/mob mentality biomes.

I enjoy Rise and Fall very much so far (although I'm not very good at it). The devlopers have bewen very creative and thorough. This constant harping and whining just rolls off my back. I think a lot of these folks need to get a life!

Well, it's UI is still worse than mods out there. It has bugs and mine right now is that I can't see combat prediction. The gameplay has some added features, but building wide (lots of cities) is still the best way and science on top. Pretty much the same game, but with dark or bright tones.

This has fixed that combat preview bug for everyone I've talked to so far - give it a shot.

whats hall of fame?

I've got over 1000 games across Steam, Origin, and Battle.net. Civilization and Blizzard games are the only ones I've ever paid full price for. I think the expansion is fun and enjoy the new systems and civs. An overly negative and very vocal userbase has been bashing the game on Steam since it was released. If you've enjoyed past Civ games, there's no reason you won't like the new expansion.

A screen that has records your wins/losses with some additional details for each game (map size, vic type, score)
it's been in all other previous civ's.

http://civilization.wikia.com/wiki/Hall_of_Fame has some details.

EDIT: I should probably add, i've not anything against Civ VI or the expansion but I just can't bring myself to play another +100hrs that'll just *poof* dissappear when you're done. I know it's my problem. OCD or something.

to be honest i see the whole loyalty thing as an unnecessary pain in the butt. it really cramps my playstyle as rome but is probably less so with other civs. the governors is a good idea but honestly there is 1 that matters to me and the rest are just there (the one that doubles yeilds from chopping down forests). dark and golden ages dont really matter to me either, should have been in the game from the start (atleast golden ages).

despite fanboy hysteria pretending people are actually paying money for copies of the DLC purely to give it negative reviews.. thats just plain stupid. why not just buy the game on steam, give it a bad review, and then refund it? a copy sold says FAR more about the game than a negative review on steam, and anyone thinking about the grand scheme to the point where they are going to review bomb a game out of spite would SURELY see that.

I definitely agree with what Leandrombraz says, People are using it to complain and not to review the actual product itself. It's just sad to see the Steam reviews aren't very reliable. I absolutely love the Rise and Fall DLC and I find it a great addition to the game.

I'm still in my first game. Marathon. So I'm not sure about negatives yet. Still having fun trying to flip cities.
jonnin Feb 11, 2018 @ 6:02pm
it costs as much as a full game to deliver... what? Tweaks, about 3/4 of which are fixes to poor quality of the original release. Theres nothing "wrong" with it outright except charging more than a couple of bucks for it.
