City State Capture Emergency Example
I had a City State that I was suzerain over (or mabe tied for it) and it got captured in the Classical Era by one of my AI Player neighbors. I was the only one that took the Emergency offer (I thnk Egypt was offered but declined) as Pericles (Greece). The result was well worth it even though the City was hard to get at, it was in a valley between mountains, and I could only attack it directly from ONE tile, with ranged fire from archers from two tiles, but no ancient city wall.

2400 in cash is really nice and so is getting an extra One Gold per TURN per ENVOY that I have. This can amount to 11 and a little later 14 gold per turn income which is very helpful (particularly if it lasts for a long time- end of game (I hope)) (Pericles usually has a lot envoys anyway). What helped was the City State between the conquered City State and my aggressive neighbor was also under my Suzerainship, and I could use (hire) it's military to keep him from intervening in defense of my target. It still took me over 20 turns to liberate it because of the very restricted space and the time to get my units there. I think that only Egypt and I were offered the chance to join the Emergency, while Rome was passed over (on joining the Liberation Emergency) since it had (probably) no envoys there.

I posted this message to give people some idea of what an Emergency reward might be like early in the game. I got the 2400 Gold after liberating the City. And I did not have to split it with anyone!

It started in late Classical Era and was finished in Medieval Era (about turn 132). Afterwards the Liberated City was back as me having 3 Envoys and 0 Envoys for everyone else. There are only 4 Civs on my Continent although Kongo has found his way to it early from nearby.

It also gave me a useful chance to build up the experience levels on several of my military units (I had a Great General supporting the attack on the City).

In my current game Poundmaker decided he wanted Stockholm for himself triggering an emergency. I was already at war with him because he had his eyes set on my delicious spices and tasty bananas. Nobody else was interested in helping Stockholm so I beat him off my door and marched 5 crossbowmen, a bombard and a musketman down the road my trade route had made straight to Stockholm earlier. His knights were little resistence to my crossbowmen along the way. Once we got to Stockholm we had about 12 turns to go to work. Evidently I had already beaten most of his forces at my own city gate. One of my crossbowmen got too close and was taken out by the city defenses and a crossbow unit garrisoned inside up on the walls. I pulled everyone back a couple of tiles to so that everyone was healed up fully. That's when he made the ultimate mistake and brought his crossbowmen outside only to find 4 crossbow bolts nocked at point blank range. I gave the order and Poundmaker had one less unit he had to worry about paying. After that I rolled my bombard up to the door and surrounded the city my 4 remaining crossbows and musketman. In no time at all, the bombard and crossbows brought the city to its knees and my musketman went in for the kill. Stockholm was immediately liberated and I was 3500g richer and collecting a sweet +1g per envoy. To top it off, the next turn Poundmaker complimented my science and two turns after that he had a green smiley face for me.
