The Rome Rush Strategy [ Guide ]
This is a guide as to how to play Rome aggressively, getting a domination victory as early as the medieval era.

As a prenote, I rarely play on the higher difficulties. This technique has being tested and used primarily on prince difficulty, which is the standard difficulty. Should this technique also work in diety I simply do not know and have little interest in trying it.

I will mention a couple of techs and civics you'll be wanting to gun for, whilst in some situations it may more benfital to grab other techs I feel these tend to be the strongest for this playstyle. Particularly early game. Now lets get started.

First of all yets talk tech, you want to get Iron working as soon as possible. Making your legions early means they have a longer span of time which they are viable for. That being said I often like to grab pottery first for the granary. Grab mining then work towards bronze working, make sure to kill 3 barbarians if you get a chance as it will boost the tech. Once you discover bronze working you should build an iron mine if possible. this will boost iron working, meaning your legion is unlocked quicker.

Early game I recommend going for craftmenship then military tradition. This will give you flanking bonus for your units. Note that you can often grab it quicker than most due to romes ability Trajans Colomn ( which grants you a free monument at the start of the game ). If possible also make sure to kill an encampment as this will boost military tradition, allowing you to grab it even early. In addition, Military Tradition also gives you access to Agoge, which allows you to make warrior and legion units even quicker.

The first thing you should build is a second warrior unit, then a third. If someone spawned relatively close to you it is easy to capture there capital with 3-4 warrior units. If they are further away, you may want to forward settle them due to another of romes abilities 'all roads lead to rome'. This will allow you to send reinforcements much quicker ( especially if there are hills, forest and jungle in the way ). Ideally you want to expand in a long line, stretching your empire to be long and thin. That way you can get the most out of your trading posts. ( which automatically build, thanks to 'all roads lead to rome'. )

Once you do unlock your legion units, make sure to upgrade all your warrior units if you can. As well as your legion units, you focus is going to be on campus districts and commercial hubs. You want to retain good science throughout the game as a killer for most domination attempts is falling behind in the tech ladder. You also want to keep a strong economy to support your armies, as well as upgrade units should they grow obsolete.

The strategy for rome is simply, build your legion units quickly and in numbers. Use your economy to keep your army afloat and your tech to keep your army up-to-date. Towards the medieval era most cities will have walls so I recommend building either a catapult or a battering ram. Military cards such as Agoge, Consciption and Professional army are a warmongers best friend. Wonders like the Alhambra and Forbidden city are a luxury should you be able to afford them but I recommend gunning the Terracotta army if you can, if you have a decent sized army a free promotion for each unit is a godsend.

Keep the pressure up on your enemies and systematically wipe them off the map. By the start of the medieval era you should have an empire which spans a continent ( I know I did ).

Is there anything I've missed, perhaps I have not being clear in my guide. Praise and Criticism will all be taken aboard.

If you want to post a guide, use the guide feature rather than a forum post.
