The reason I don't think it matters much for civ6 is, the game itself is already slow-paced and not that much animation is in the game, but if other people went from 60 to 120+, they could comment better in that regard.
What is it you are looking for in a monitor that would help the game in anyway?
All it really comes down to is what videocard you have. If you want high graphics, with high refresh rates and high resolutions, you will need a GTX1080 to hit 144fps all the time.
If you are running the game on a 5 year old videocard, a 144 mhz monitor won't make much difference, other then the screen is newer and brighter.
Frame rates and resolution.
Hz = how many times your screen refreshes per second
Fps = how many times your videocard draws the screen per second
If your FPS is lower than 144, you are not really benefiting from a faster monitor refresh rate. You will not get a high FPS without an expensive videocard. Generally, the "playable" target FPS is around 60 FPS, which correlates with most monitors at 60mhz.
You won't see any benefit from a 144hz monitor in gaming unless your videocard is getting over 144 FPS. Depending on your FPS, you may be better off with a 60Mhz monitor at a higher resolution. The extra screen real estate plays a more important role in Strategy games vs. FPS anyway.
Having a higher refresh rate will make animations smoother if your computer can support a higher framerate, but Civ 6 and similar games are more focused on gameplay and don't have as many movements/animations as action games like shooters.
Having a higher resolution (say 1440p) will make the image much sharper and allow you to see details more clearly. Higher resolution will also make other media like pictures, videos, and movies more enjoyable even if their framerate is capped.
