I don't mind the price so much as more a matter of principle.
People that support a game for full price and early on should never be screwed over at a later date.
"Inventing" a new all in one edition later on does not fix that ;-)
Just let me upgrade to the more expensive edition. Or at least let me BUY it again. As it stands right now i can't even hit the buy button for the 80 buck edition, because i own the basic one.
So how did you support the game if you bought the plain game and not the deluxe version? People bought the version without dlc to spare money and are now crying because they actualy didn't spare money and call it "I supported the game!" LOLOLLOLOL
And I don't even "use" this dlcs because I don't play the scenarios and the new civs allone aren't woth that extra money (I'm still glad to invest this extra money on the deluxe versoin because this game is just awsome for me)
And like I already said:
You don't need this dlcs. You actualy will miss nothing without them.
I believe the difference is in having made an informed decision.
When Digital Deluxe was announced, it was announced with only the first 4 DLC to be included. The only reason they went to 6 is because people in a couple of countries had some wonky things going on where the price of the 4 DLC + Base Game turned out to be less than the DD version. At that point they decided to include the first 6 for everyone who ordered DD.
Bascially you got lucky that a screw up in exchange rates netted you two more DLC. At that point it would have been a good decision (not legally required, just a good decision) to have an upgrade from base to DD version. Perhaps only run that special for 30 or 60 days and then end it. They could have put a notice in the game and a news item for it on Steam. Then if you missed it, you missed it, but it was there.
Again, I'm not saying they should have legally been required to do this, just would have been the "right thing" to do.
I never thought it would be a problem to get it upgraded or reasonably get the DLCs.
How big was my mistake - there was never sale on any of the DLCs since day 1.
You cannot even buy the Deluxe edition when it was on sale and WAS CHEAPER than all the DLCs together because the game is already in your library.
I have never seen such stupid marketing strategy in my decades of gaming.
I sincerely hope that once the Rise and Fall is out we will see some reasonable way how to get the DLCs - as I doubt anyone is gonna pay 40EUR for bunch of DLCs you dont actually need (want them for the completionist sake).
Glad i am not the only one.
Hell, i just got the FULL GAME plus 3 DLC via my Humble Monthly subscription. Which is 12 bucks.
I was able to redeem the DLCs seperatly from the base game, but i have a random base game code laying around now. Guess ill give it to my mother or a friend that keeps playing Civ V *shrug*
We really need a good way to upgrade our editions, or at least allow us to pay the full damn price even if we own the base version.
I know I am buying perhaps a tenth of the games I used to buy a few years ago. Games are so expensive now and you need to shop around/wait for sales. These days I get all of my stuff on steam code sites a few weeks after release or in a steam sale. I never buy any other time, I never preorder, I never buy early access, I never buy on the day of release.
It takes a lot of willpower not to get sucked into the hype but I enjoy the feeling that I have never been ripped off badly recently. I enjoy my games better now as well.
Sad story. Really.
I actually do like to support well made games for full price. I am not concerned about money if the product i buy is worth it.
What bothers me if i get a slap in the face for showing this kind of support.
Could have paid 1/3rd of the price and now have all DLCs. This was at the time of release, about a week in, not months and months of waiting. So i really understand your point of view here. I just try to not use that on really good games. For medicore games tho,.... yeah. Same. ;-)
Is there a chance I pay $12 for a monthly subscription, get civ6 and a few dlc and then I can cancel subscription? And one would get steam keys. No strings attached?
yes. exactly like that.
