What is the Era Symbol supposed to represent?

I've been playing since Civ 6 first came out, playing both expansions and nearly all the DLCs. I have yet to see an explanation as to what the Dark, Normal, Golden, etc symbols are meant to represent. To me, they look like tilted smiley faces wearing a crown while sitting on an ice cream cone. Does anyone know what they really are?

I didn't mean the Era Icons on the leader banners. But, rather the Era Symbol at the bottom right corner on the Information Icon.

I do not know how to post an image of the symbol I am talking about. However, in looking at it again, I believe Lemurian1972 is correct- Moon, Sun, Bright Sun.
