how to win with australia
If you have not figured out the might of australia give it a chance.

1) Non river coastal cities can still get pretty large with just a granery.

2) Expansion of pastrues and then the outback stations make the plains and grassland production powerhouses like no other civ.

3) If you can get the pantheon that gives +1 faith per charming or better your faith will be through the roof. Easily buy the great people you want! This ability will ofset not getting a religion. When your getting 300-400 in two turns buy troops in the middle ages to fuel your wars. GET the wonder that raises the terrain +1 later in the game, even more faith.

4) BEST of all is what I call the g ive away smack down.
Austalia is supposed to be a passive civ, I think in the way they descibe it. I beg to differ. NOT

First liberate every city for the +100% production bonus for 20t. That's huge. many times other civs will conquer a city state quickly. Absolutely liberate it and get an immediate 3 envoys and
allied with it to fuel the war at +20turns.

Second, on harder levels othe civs will declare war on you. NIce +10t production bonus. even better if you can bait someone to declare war and liberate a c.s. they conquered.

Third is the give away smack down. The idea is to keep the +100% production gong for as long
as you can.

SO, I always save a crappy city of a civ I conquered or beet into oblivion just o give it to the civ I am going to dclare war on. GIve it a way, just before the 5 turn denouvce is set to c.b. war on the next civ. Immediately take the city and Liberate it. DOing this I cna go at least 50% of the game at +50%. SUre I am a warmonger, who cares.

Want crap bult in no tme, GO to WAR with Australia. Be sure to try to kick off wars when one +10 or +20 turn ends., and not have them overlap much. Also, if your baiting a declaration of war, save plan any liberations for after the 10 turns die off so little overlap.

Australia is a great civ for New players as that 100% production in Liberation/Defensive wars comes handy when someone declares war on you and It is so satisfying to have opposing Civs give you a free 100% boost.

You can win with any civ and any tactic you like. Remember that the traits from each civ and leader is just somethng they do better or unique. You dont have to win "their way".

The difficulty setting in the game is more important to new players then picking the correct civ.
I would suggest any new player to start with Prince. Since Warlord simply are way to easy. New players needs some kind of challange in order to learn or enjoy the game. On Warlord, you never loose, you get everything and the AI acts like a dumb worm.

I agree with what the poster here says about Australia though! =)
