how can i buy great people

patronage seems to be needed for this but where can i find patronage

In the great people menu, you can use either faith or gold to patronize (buy) a great person. The cost is based on how many points torward that person you already have.

and i suppose that the buy button will be visible as soon as you have enough money?

Underneath the text explaining what the great person does, there should be a section saying "Or recruit by patronage" with the gold and faith costs listed. They are grayed out until you can afford it. I will get you a screenshot in a few minutes.
