Trans-Siberian Railroad achievement not triggering
Is anyone else having trouble getting Trans-Siberian Railroad to trigger?
- I'm playing as Russia
- My two cities are more than 60 hexes apart whether you count going east or west
- They are connected via road
- I have a trade route running between them - actually, two routes, one starting at each end
- A few turns have gone by with all of the above being true

Are there any other gotchas that I may be overlooking? It's such a complicated achievement that I can't tell if I did it wrong or if it's bugged.

It's how I did it. People were talking about counting tiles East/West, but I thought that's just silly. No counting needed for North / South.

I did it all as well, 67 tiles traveling distance, even 6! roads you can take to there, stil no achievement?! The route goes over land only and still no achieve.

Here is the kicker that no one reads. Including me the first 5 times I tried. You must have a route to trading post that is 60 tiles away from your capital, not a trading route to a city the is 60 away. To get the achievement, the city that is 60 tiles away must have trading route that connects to a city that is even further away from the then the capital then foir it to become a trading POST. No city with only one road in the same direction can become a trading post. Trading posts are not end points they are midle points. Inland Sea, Low Sea Level on a Huge map was only way I could do it.

If it's the trading post that matters, then it doesn't matter if it's the end point - it means you have to do another route to that same city after one completed.

Trading posts are cities that you've completed a trade route to once before.

Definitely bugged - did long land route through cities in line.

Every city had a trading post.
Last 3 cities were further than 60 tiles (trade-route says 68, 76, 84 length) - waited for all the routes to complete, then sent them again (the routes were also running both ways - established from capital to the cities and from the cities to capital as well).

Might try to do the water option if I ever find the will to try at again.

I got it to work just fine. I used the biggest size inland sea map playing as Russia and used fewer civs. Was able to setup the trade route from bottom right corner towards bottom left corner.

Just found this out : pillaged roads will not count as "connected". Lame.

You need not to control all the terrain in between, but other players must NOT control any tiles the traders are passing through. City-states seem to be fine, at least if you are their suzerain. I just got this achievement by sending a trader to a conquered city 61 tiles away. It was not even possible to send it there, before A) there was a continuous terrain of not other civilizations in between these cities, AND B) most, if not all, cities in between these cities had a trading post. It seems to be essential to extend the range of your traders. I got the achievement the very next turn after I sent the trader to go, so it is not required to wait the mission to complete, if there is road network already betwen the cities. I started a regluar game at ancient era and beat it with cultural victory, but kept playing until I got this achievement, so there already was a natural network of roads existing.

If you want to fast-forward for it, I'd suggest just to keep founding cities every 10 tiles apart in a straight line and sending traders between them until you're able to send one to a city more than 60 tiles away from your capital. And make sure other civs won't cut your line with their cities, so I's choose a huge pangea with less players than default. If they do, conquer or raze their cities.

Inland Sea is a better map choice than Pangaea

Yes, but the achievement is before that. Having rail isn't a requirement.

Anyone know if a canal tile counts as a water tile for this purpose?

EDIT: All other conditions met, seems that the canal does negate the entire chain. :|

the chevement is definitely bugged now. Tried 3 times to gte the acivement on huge inland sea map. Had a city at southeast corner and the north west corner and still didnt get the acivement. All the cities between had a trading post and all roads wer on dry land and not pillaged

Ursa Ryan has a YT in which he got the achievement. I am pretty sure that he did this in the past month or two, so the achievement can't be bugged completely. I don't remember if he had to revert to vanilla Civ, before GS, and even before R&F. This is a possibility, because some other achievements that involve civs and leaders that have changed (now have alternate personalities, now have alternate leaders for the civ) since vanilla, no longer work.

The theory is that the achievements are linked to leaders as defined by their original identities. Only vanilla Teddy will get achievements linked to America or to Teddy, because both the new Teddys, even the one with the same uniques, are different in ways that make the coding fail to recognize the achievement. Russia hasn't acquired a new leader, or given Peter an alter ego, so you wouldn't think this is the problem.

At any rate, watch the Ursa Ryan YT. He explains it all, in even more detail and exactitiude than Sister Mary Eugenia back in 2nd grade ran down for us the way sin works
