Great People, random queue-order
I can't figure out when a certain great person will be next in line, say for example scientists (because I'm trying to do an achievement involving Newton and Darwin). If I'm the only player in the whole game that spawn scientists, I won't get all of them for some reason.

Is Newton actually in the game? I seem to only be able to spawn Darwin (most of the times) but they skip Newton entirely every time. I had an idea that maybe it's dependent on game-speed, so I tried to force myself through the slowest (I usually play online-speed) but I just can't do it, far too agonizing to wait 100s of turns for anything to complete.
And no, no other civ claimed them before me, I know where the log is and I can read it :)

tl;dr
Do great people spawn in a random order leaving some people completely out of the current game, or are some great people "banned" from certain game-speeds? Or something else?

Newton is just the one before Darwin. Newton is the last Reneissance GS while the Darwin is the first Industrial GS. Check this list: http://civilization.wikia.com/wiki/Great_Scientist_(Civ6)

In which era you start your games? You won't get Newton if you start from Industrial era.

I know where they're supposed to be, it's just that they don't ALWAYS spawn. Say I play a regular game, starting on ancient and playing at online speed. I'm the only one that's ticking great scientist points, no other civ is claiming ANY great scientist ever. What's the issue?

I'm not sure.. but you might need to spawn all previous GS's from that same era to get one you want from the end of the list. For example to get Newton you might need spawn both Emilie Du Chatelet and Galileo Galilei while at Reneissance era, before you can spawn Newton. So, you need huge great scientist point generation (or faith/gold) at Reneissance era and try to avoid advancing to Industrial era. It might be easier if some other players crab those two earlier GS's and you use your points to Newton. I think you are making the task to get Newton harder, by being the only player getting great scientists.

Ok, I didn't realize that they go straight to the industrial greats when you advance. I assumed that you could theoretically get classical great people even if you advanced to the modern era. No wonder the queue seemed random to me :)

I haven't played any great person heavy games... so, I'm not sure about that, but it surely looks like it's going that way based on your observations. Also, I have seen in my games that there has been great persons from roughly correct eras.

At least that is one thing you can try.

I think that in each Era, the Great Persons are chosen randomly from a pool for each type of Great Persons. I have gone back and used saved games, and then a turn or two later when I get a particular GP, the next GP up in that type will often be different if they are in the same Era, or for that matter even when moving up an Era.

Added. I think that for most types of Great Persons there are 2 per era. Great Prophets are different, but I think the Industrial Era stops their availablity if all of them have not already been chosen. I had a game where I kept Rome from turning their Great Prophet into a Religion by capturing their Holy Site/City; and no one else could recruit that Great Prophet. Unfortunately, I could not capture that Great Prophet whenever it came out of Rome's last city, it just got moved back into the city when I tried.
