Great artists are too prolific
, too much talent, too many good works up their sleeves. How many times have you seen the other side with stacks and stacks of artists around thier hubs of draw?

Ever made the mistake of going for such a thing? Only to have stacks of artists all over the place and no where to go?

Maybe you have and maybe you haven't, but what little I have dabbled on that dark side of that moon.... it seemed off. Not like I won trying it, had no real sense of where I was in the scheme of it, but I was snowed with the Great People in little time..

Is there a better sense of balance needed here or is it my poor playing? I don't think the AI handles it well either.

As an after thought, I did play a game where everything was taken, no more great people. So in a sense, they may not be so much prolific as, there may be a need for more of them with less works of art up thier dresses?

If you have a decent Culture Great Writer/Artist/Musician engine, you will end up with too many of them and nowhere to put them.

You also need a serious Wonder building engine.

They could really use a secondary ability, like a culture bomb to expand borders from Civ 4 or huge bonus to culture a la 5.

If you plan on going for culture vic, then you should have the cathedral religious building, that takes care of the overflow until you can get art museums. I've never had this problem when I actually focus on culture, I only have it when I ignore culture and go for a different victory, and I never have it ever on Emperor difficulty and above.

I just finished a game as Kongo. I had artists and musicians all over the place (and a few writers) with nothing to do. Every city had a theatre district, and I had Broadway, Hermitage, and several other culture wonders.

The only way this can happen is if you are playing a culture game at Prince or lower diff, and/or have few opponents who are none of the culture opponents. I had a game with Russia where I had 7 cities, cathedrals, both those wonders, and I had zero idle culture people. I lost a few writers here and there to Kongo and France beat me to an artist. That was on King difficulty, small world, ancient start, 7 opponents.

I also got the "buy culture buildings with faith" religious tenet. That helps a lot.

I was playing at King level, small map, all default settings. Gandhi was also going for a culture game, that's probably why he declared war on me in the late game (that was really stupid of him)
