if you hate that Civs are starting too close get in
i prefer more space and freedom and the fact that other civs starting way too close to me is annoying and makes the game less fun for me
i found this fix on reddit and its working perfect

edit these lines:
<Row Name="START_DISTANCE_MAJOR_CIVILIZATION" Value="9" />

<Row Name="START_DISTANCE_MAJOR_NATURAL_WONDER" Value="4" />

<Row Name="START_DISTANCE_MINOR_CIVILIZATION" Value="5" />

<Row Name="START_DISTANCE_MINOR_NATURAL_WONDER" Value="3" />

in the GlobalParameters file.
its located in the game folder:
\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Base\Assets\Gameplay\Data

you can put whatever you want mine looks like this:
<Row Name="START_DISTANCE_MAJOR_CIVILIZATION" Value="29" />

<Row Name="START_DISTANCE_MAJOR_NATURAL_WONDER" Value="14" />

<Row Name="START_DISTANCE_MINOR_CIVILIZATION" Value="15" />

<Row Name="START_DISTANCE_MINOR_NATURAL_WONDER" Value="13" />

Geeez, what has strategy gaming become...

Generation Z has officially taken over.

What do you mean I can't drop a city next to China just to get their blood boiling?

No it is a valid comment. This entire thread is themed around people expecting the world to adjust to them instead of learning strategies to deal with it.

A trait strongly attributed to gen Z called entitlement.

I think you have understood this completely wrong. it is not how far away you can put your city or near, same goes for civs. it only tells where the start pos will be at minimum to a capital city at start. you can still park your Dajm X next to other capital city if you wish so..

Thank you. I was looking for something like this. It sucks to have to fight three major civs just to expand in early game.

Yes, thank you. Very interesting. :)

On the bright side, if a civ settles right beside you, you won't have to go far to destroy him.

I like a lot of breathing room at the start of a game too, but have a simpler solution. I generally play on huge maps (edited back to Civ V size) with seven AI civs (which I prefer to 10-12 civs anyway regardless of starting position). I generally have a fairly isolated staring position, but if a couple of scouts walk in on me by turn 10, I just restart. Problem solved.

Oh, and don't get me started on how younger players have forced games--especially RPG games, which I have avidly played since Ultima IV in the '80s--to become hand holding affairs. After all, who could do a quest without a UI arrow guiding you to the location? Or how newer players found the exp loss on death and corpse retrieval mechanics of orignal EverQuest (which actually forced players to learn how to play their class and the game) "too hard," giving birth to the consequence free death of WoW and subsequent MMOs (removing a major reason for players to become competent). /rant off.

Honestly, I am just finishing up a huge map. I had the aztecs settle next to me not once, but twice in the same spot. I think the only way to solve the problem is either posting units in places or building satelite cities next to them. Any little bit of space they will settle. And if you let them, they will soon have a defendable city that is a pain to remove.

A video game isn't "the world". The purpose of a game is to have fun. If it doesn't provide you with fun (ultimately the thing you paid for), and you can change it, you should. If anything, it displays a measure of accountability and responsibility instead of the expectation that others (Firaxis) fix the perceived problem for them.

I play the game the way it is, but people being proactive instead of whiny is a refreshing change.

First it has nothing to do with distance to settle a new city. It only has to do with where your initial units spawn at the start of the game.

Secondly, I play games to have fun and frankly dont give a fsck what you think of my choices for changing the game. Some choices make the game harder, some make it easier. Let people enjoy the game how ever they want. My job is plenty mentally demanding, some times I just want to come home, load up a game and crush the AI or play with the playstyle I want to play.

Lastly, I'm a Gen X. Baby boomers thought we were entitled. The generation before them thought baby boomers were entitled. It is called rose colored glasses. Stop being a douche and stereotyping people you know nothing about.

Yeah, I was born in the early seventies and heard it from my grandparents. :) Trav summed it up well. I think trashing the younger generation is one way of coping with getting older. Compensation for the greying hair (or, God forbid, thinning hair!).
