please help my map "disappeared" while playing

during my turn, my scout comes upon another civilization. I complete the rest of my turn and hit next turn. When it becomes my turn again, about 1/3rd of the map and mini map look like unemplored map with only the capital of the newly discovered civ visible. The remaining portion of the mini map is all black. As for the regular map, it just shows that blue background. I can cycle through my units with the camera moving a little with each unit but I can't see them. I have a screenshot, but I am not sure how to upload it. Can anybody help? I don't want to go back to an auto saved version unless I have to.

hmm don't know. might be a bug? maybe something in the game hung up or whatever.

if it's some sort of runtime error, a save & reload might fix it. or save, close game, restart game, reload.
