continents map producing pangea
I just bought the game and have started 3 games so far and played to a point where the map is reasonably explored. In all three cases, reagrdless of setting the map type to continents, my civ was located on a huge land mass with all the other civs. Anyone else having this issue?

no one elese has this problem? what settings are you using to generate multiple conts? I just started a game with the continents map and got my 4th pangea in a row.

How large was the map when you set the starting conditions?

I had a map with two large continents, but one of those continents was really 2 linked by a 1 tile wide bridge

standard...if there was another cont then it was empty because everyone was on mine which was big and fat.
The map generator seems to ignore many user prefsl. I always choose 'old' maps in the misguided hope that my playing field won't be edge to edge mountains and hills.

In all games I played pre-patch on large or huge maps with continents, the continents map produced what I expected. Maybe it's coincidence, but since the patch, I've played well into two games on huge maps with continents and both appear to be pangea. Also, both appear to be unusually mountainous and hilly (I play with default settings).

In the first game, I explored a long way and never saw a coast. I had restarted with a restart button mod and thought either I made a mistake in settings or the mod was buggy. In the second game, I just started the game again from the main menu until I got a start I liked. But although I found the coast in one spot, I'm in the medieval era with a huge part of the map explored, I've met a number of civs, and it seems like a pangea again, which I really have no desire to play. One of many reasons I am thinking of putting this aside until further patches.

Note--I have edited files that enlarge huge maps to Civ V size. I wonder if that has introduced a problem.

I don't think that would be the cause. I have no mods and no files edited and I have a game going on a Huge map set to Continents and everything on Standard. It's definitely still a Pangea with the other Civs not even all that far from me despite having only 5 opponents on a map allegedly sized for 12.

I really, really hate this map generator.

Ive started countless games on the islands map and it always ends up with 2 or 3 snakey landmasses, some tiny useless islands, and maybe, maybe, 1 circley island just big enough for 3 or 4 cities (which is what i ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ want from an island map). Oh and the best part is it often results in multiple unconnected oceans.

i honestly think its just best to set everything to random, that way you can't get let down by your expectations.

The islands map, as has been mentioend above, has changed dramatically, becoming two or three large snakey islands reminiscent of fractal maps in Civ 5.
