How long does "occupied" status stay
I thought that after a time it will go away and you dont need to cede the city. Its been like 30-40 turns now. Other thing is, why cant i see cede city option in peace talks?

I don't think it goes away until the city is ceeded or their home civilization is destroyed. They are literally under hostile military occupation until that time.

Cede city will just be in the normal city list. Until the opposition cedes it, it technically still belongs to them, so will be on their side of the trade window.

Regarding them being grumpy about it....that never goes away even if they cede the city in peace or future trades. Unless you destroy them completely, but then the other civs will hold it against you until the end of time.

I wiped out the Spanish in my current game (in fact I wipe them out in every game because they insist on starting on me every time lol), 300 turns later I am still being called a warmonger...even though there has been no conflict with anyone since.

AI seriously needs work :/

Just face it. AI is a jealous guy with a grudge. You know.. the kind of type you see in police/crime shows.

Thats the problem, theres no option about it. Only list of cities but no cede. After I captured first city from Russia theres was no option so I didnt think much about it but now with Scythia its the same. And that first city is still at occupied status after a loooong time. This is on deity though I dont think it matters.
The occupied no growth should go away once the war is over even if they don't cede the city

Just remember to always get the AI to cede the cities you've captured once you end the war. If you crushed their army or are on the doorsteps of their next city/capital, they are more than willing to cede the city for peace. If you only just captured their city and they've still got a large army standing, they'll reject it.

It's there. In small print, after the name of the city.

If you capture Mumbai, and then talk to Gandhi to negotiate peace, you will see his list of cities, and Mumbai will say 'Mumbai, cede'.

Click on it to make it part of the deal. See if he lets you have it.

He might not agree to it. In which case the city will forever remain occupied, with no growth.

Until you give it back to him, or he lets you have it, after the peace deal.

The warmonger penalty takes forever to tick down and accumilates far too much.
You get a warmonger penalty for starting a war, and taking cities, and another penalty on top of that if you wipe a civ out.
The thing is, with Spain you HAVE to wipe them out if you ever took a city from them because they give you a permanent agenda penalty for occupying their cities EVEN IF THEY CEDE THEM and poison the well against you with anyone they ally with.

It's all ridiculously broken to the point that if you declare even one war mid to late game, even a holy or colonial war, you might as well resign yourself to everybody hating you and nuking them into the stone age before they do it to you.

lol that last line made me chuckle.

I don't know if it was coincidence though, my last game everyone was red faced (denounced) at me (except for the ♥♥♥♥ as I denounced them for asking for 150gpt and almost every luxury resource I had to return my spy)...then my first nuke finished building and they all changed to neutral in one go...(aside from the affor mentioned ♥♥♥♥...whom I may drop the nuke on purely on principle)

Probably a coincidence, I was stockpiling thermonukes and nobody changed. You need to look at the relationship tap in the diplomacy screen to see why they're mad at you.

I had a +250 warmonger penalty for wiping out Spain and Russia even though I declared Holy War which supposedly halved all penalties, so everyone except Greece hated me (frankly, I think Gorgo fell in love with me. This is not creepy).
Still, it was worth it. Not only were they chain denouncing me non stop and making everyone else dislike me anyway through alliances, anything's better than seeing Philip wave his sword at me and growl like a jackass every 10 damn turns because he doesn't understand what ceding means.

If their old country no longer exists, you will not have any problem with your occupied cities, they are yours then.
xd well if you are rich enough a way to get cities is to buy them during peace deals the ai generally will be more willing to trade you cities for a lower price after a like 30 turns of war
i was playing indonesia and was basically outside the enemy door just sniping troops out the ai was basically im just gonna run around even if theres crossbow sniping
