Why is new Korean leader Queen Seondeok?

She is known as one of the worst leader in whole Korean history. It's like putting Nero as Roman Leader or setting Nixon as American Leader. As a Korean, I must ask the reason for selecting Queen Seondeok as the leader in Civ6. I would rather accept Myung-Sung Empress as the female leader..

I love it, and it's a new direction rather than simply repeating leaders already used. Personally I love the Admiral Yi Sun who designed the turtle ships.. but he never tecnically led Korea (infact they stripped his rank several times), still would be a wonderful alt though.

Ok. Based on academic review, Queen Seondeok was pretty much concerned about buddism only, and didn't do much for the military and put to much effort building Hwang-Ryong - Tower.. Lost a lot of viliages (some says she lost 100 viliages), and damaged Shin-la's economy.

Her only accepted achievement is the Hwang-Ryong - Tower. and nothing else. Who would want a leader who ignores whatever happening and build one's own wonder only?

English-language sources seem to be rather more positive. Plus it sounds like that TV show was, but it's hard to be sure from a synopsis.

I like the leader choice but I'm not too impressed by her design. Shes looks like she would fit in more in Civ V with its more realistic leaders. Certainly looks abit boring next to the larger than life exaggerated leaders like Cleopatra, Roosevelt or Philip II.

A shame because the dlc leaders have been really good especially ones like Amanitore and Cyrus

Ok. Let me tell you about the truth behind the Queen Seondeok. Originally, Queen Seondeok never have been treated as a great person before 200X. I read hundreds of biographies, but never seen a single biography about her in my childhood: I had seen Sim Sa-in-dang, Huh Nan-sul-hun, Nun-Gae and Empress Myung-Sung biographies.

However, Queen Seondeok was designed to be a great person to support the impeached president Park.

Since impeached president Park hated Empress Myung-Sung for the empress had been assassinated by Japanese bullies, there was no famous female leader to match and make good image of impeached president Park before/after the election. And as impeached president Park was the owner of MBC, the MBC made the drama Queen Seondeok.. for the image of the impeached president Park.

So, to the many Koreans, Queen Seondeok remind of impeached president Park, who is accepted as the worst leader ever ruled South Korea.

P.S. By the way, all the Koreans know the Drama Queen Seondeok is pure fantasy, like Tae-Wang-Sa-Shin-Gi.
