Questions about "true start location earth" map options
Hey everybody,

Just started playing and so far liking the game (more than the Total War series). I've played 2 games to learn with to about 50 turns and another longer one that is at 200 turns. I might start another one with higher difficulty but i had some questions.

I like using the "true start location earth" option when i select a map. It looks like by default certain options are locked and unable for me to be changed. It says that there will be 12 city states. Those are the other AI civilizations on the map just like me correct? I see another option under advanced that allows me to set my leader and a few other random ones. Does that mean that the city-states could potentially have any of those random leaders for their civ? So that means if i delete all but one then then only 1 civ will have that named leader and the rest of them will be run by generic AI?

City states are minor civs that are just single cities around the map. There's different types like religious, economic, industrial, cultural, militaristic, and scientific. Each city state has its own unique bonus that applies to the suzerain. To gain suzerain of a CS you need to place envoys in them. You earn more bonuses for 1 envoy, 3 envoys, and 6 envoys. The suzerain status is achieved at 3 envoys but it only applies to the civ who has the most envoys in it. (Btw you can't play as a CS)
A major civ is any of the 27 civs that you are able to play as. So when you're looking at the advanced game set up you can toggle the number of CS on the map and the number of AI players on the map separately.
You can not choose which CS spawn on the map but you can pick which ai civs you play against. Or let them randomize

I've only played on true start locations and from the looks of it the number of CS in that map mode is fixed at 12. I guess it would be a good idea to not destroy the CS since i can generate gold from trade routes with them.

So in true start, 12 CS and all AI leaders toggled on the map can get pretty crowded. I'll just limit the number of civ AI and since its true start and the whole world is there i can make some of the leaders from the Americas and Far East Asia and Russia to spread them out.

Like you I gravitate to TSL Earth maps but I downloaded the NYaEM pack the same day I bought the game. The limitations on the vanilla tsl and the tiny size put me off right away. I had all 27 Civs on the mod map and while it takes a while to load in the first time once loaded it plays like any huge map.
