B) warmonger penalties only apply to diplomacy and only matter when there's more than one other civ on the map. Obviously they person you're going to war against is going to be mad that you went to war.
C) the ending and being forced to force quit the game are the only thing you have a point about.
B) Well maybe the should tell me something about it in the tutorial. How am I supposed to even know there's only one civ on the map.

If not going for culture, you can ignore warmonger. Its a broken system where defending yourself gets you penalized.
Try a normal game before you delete. Honestly, the game has a fair number of terrible problems, but you can't really experiece it properly in the tutorial. You have some time to return the thing, so best to try a normal game to see if you want to keep it or not.
I also recomend not playing on settler, but the level above it first-apparently a bug in the settler mode.
