Any benefit in settling a city adjacent to a mountain?
This was pretty much a must in Civ 5 to gain that Observatory and other goodies. Does it matter as much in this game?

Short answer no. Just make sure you settle near fresh water. Campus/Holy Sites benefit from them but they aren't really that much of a benefit.

They're potentially useful in the second, third or even fourth ring - second ring means they can be used for an aqueduct, and further out can still be used for adjacency for districts.

if u can get a ushape of mountinas within your boundaries, your holy site would appreciate it immensely.

Or a campus.

Slightly less vulnerable to attack.

Use it for an Aqueduct if you can't settle near a river.

You'll sometimes want one.

They can give you up to +6 housing. Which is massive.
I wouldn't recommend settling directly adjacent to a mountain. It's better to settle1-3 tiles away so you can place an aquaduct, campus and holy site next to the mountains for the adjacency bonuses.

There are some requisites for certain wonders that require that districts be adjacent to mountains or harbor next to industrial district, or cow resource next to bank, etc. If you know you want to build them, then it's worth paying attention to their requirements.

I haven't found any benefit to settling directly beside or on top of anything as far as base city production goes. Unlike Civ 5, you don't get an extra hammer for settling on a hill for example.
