I just got offered a deal by another civilisation, how do I know if it is a good deal?
I am still very new to this game and I dont know what I am doing yet.

Arabia just offered me a deal, but I dont understand what it is, how do I know if it is good?

It is good if you desire what they offer and don't lose anything you need in return.

Just use your common sense.

But I dont understand what is being offered. here is what it says:

Under my offer it has "Open Borders", then above "gold per turn" it says 2389. Does that mean I am offering to pay them 2389 gold per turn? Clearly if this is the case I will refuse the offer.

Under there offer it has "open borders" but it also has 5 gold, thne 1 gold for 30 turns. Further, in the next section below it says "349 gold per turn".

They appear to be offering 3 luxury resources while I am offering 2 and a strategic resource. This this sound like a fair deal to you? Its how much gold is being payed that is confusing me.

That's actually way off. A pure open borders deal often includes one side paying the other 1 to 4 gold per turn but rarely more.

Are you sure you are reading the actual offer and not the list underneath which holds everything that could potentially be offered? It also shouldn't be possible that there are multiple entries with gold per turn.

Those two gold values represent how much you have available for trade. Clicking either will add an amount to the offering window where it can then be adjusted.

I've found this to be a handy way of gauging the economic performance of other civs - if you max out their GPT in a trade offer you can see exactly how well their economy is doing.

A fair trade really depends on what resources each player has & how much. Generally you won't want to trade resources away unless you've got a surplus. If you have multiple surpluses, expect AIs with fewer resources to expect more from you in trades.

It's worth noting that AIs will sometimes offer you trades that are either plain bad or not great. Eventually you'll develop a sense of what will help and what won't.

Best of luck.

Hmmm well as I was waiting a while for someone to reply here, I just declined the deal to be safe.

However, in the meantime Arabia declared war on me, when I was quite unprepared. They did quite a lot of damage to me, however I was able to destroy a few of their seige weapons with my knights. They now offered me a peace deal - which I would very much like to take.

Under their offer, it says 3 gold for 13 turns, under my offer it has no gold only "make peace" - so if I am reading this right this is quite a good deal for me - I guess I should take it?

Peace deals should be hopelessly one-sided. You can ask for as much as you can first, all they can do is say no, and then you have the chance to negotiate a counter-proposal. At the very least, ask for some of his cities.

If what you want is peace, you can accept any deal that doesn't demand anything for you. There is no obligation to extort land and massive riches from other civs.

I truly do not understand how they work. My Offer is that what I am giving to them and their offer is what they are giving me or is my offer a proposal to them and visa versa?

My Offer is what you're giving them.
