Themed Museums
This is how you create one. build an art museum or archeological one.
the museum have to hold same type of art from different artists like example paintings with paintings, sculptures with sculptures. etc.
you can use your artist and use one of his/her art to hold in one city then transfer it from city to city and then move it to the museum in that city to use his/her art in that museum.
then you need another artist of the same type to repeat that steps above to create a Themed Museum.

Apart from the general statement that Themed Art bonuses are annoyingly difficult to get, I'll just point out 2 specific things:

1) There's no "Painting" category, it is Landscape, Religious, Portrait, and Sculpture. The fact that paintings are split into 3 groups makes theming Art far more difficult than theming Archaeology.

2) There's a 10 turn lock out on moving Great Works around, including when they're first created and placed. If you have multiple artists and museums, you're better off transferring the artist from city to city after creating one Great Work in each.

Like I said though, after numerous Culture wins, I've given up on GWAM, and I win using Archaeologists. They're far far FAR easier to theme, and if you get Mary Leakey (Great Scientist) on top of that, they generate massive tourism at a point in history when it does the most good.

I don't quite get it. The theming. Every time I select the Great Works window, I can't move things around. What's the 10 turn lock lout Lemurian was talking about in previous post? I'm in year 2100, haven't touched my Great Works since the beginning of the game, why can't I move them around and replace my whole collection?

I like to have a mix of art, artifacts, relics, etc ... I want to place them around, and move them to new locations... how do I do that?

As far as I can tell, the 10 turn lockout got removed in a patch. Now the only restriction for moving Artifacts is it has to be between full museums. Other reasons you may be having trouble moving things is you have to move between matching slots. You can't put Art or Relics into an Archaeology Museum for example. Each slot has an image on the background that indicates what type of slot it is.

Theming only applies to Art and Archaeology Museums and as I said back in June, theming Archaeology is still far far easier than theming art.

Also as a side note- Now that Civs are willing to trade Great Works, I've discovered you need to be VERY CAREFUL trading artifacts (and presumable Art). Let's say I have 2 Full Archaeology Museums, and one being filled. If I go trade with another Civ, and give up something from a full museum in exchange for another artifact, it will put that artifact into the empty museum not in the slot I took something from! That leaves me with 2 incomplete museums, and requires me to get another Archaeologist to fill the original museum again before I can move things around. This is a highly annoying bug.

The whole thing is kinda pointless then... in my opinion. Thanks for all the info.

The artifcats moving between archaeological musuems, I'm fine with that. But I just wish I could select all the Great Works I'm holding, press a button to locate them in a «box« on the side somwhere, have all my art museums empty (along with wonders that holds great works), and then select the great works one by one and choosing where it will be located. You understand what I mean? Why can't I just empty all the slots and re-organize them the way I want?

I always had my great people activating their great work into the same place. I thought it made sense to have all 3 paintings from the same artist at same location. But apparently not. We apparently need to move around the great person and activate their art through multiple locations. I thought theming meant «grouping all together the same work of an artist into a same location«. Not the way to go apparently.

The whole thing feel pointless now. Anything I'm missing?

Cursor over the museum where it says themeing. It explains the requirements for the theme. Lem72 is pretty much spot on. It's annoying only being able to move great works if the museums are full. I also have gotten into the habit of moving my artist around, and I'm building more archeaoligist.

As I tried to say but may not have been clear, I gave up trying to play with Art and the rule may not apply. Even still it doesn't apply to 2-4 slot Wonders, just museums. You can mix and match Art as you like (though the box off to the side idea would be nice).

And hopsblues makes a good point. The last couple of times I did use Art, I did it by moving my artists from city to city and not via the UI. The activation button will tell you what GW they're going to make so it becomes possible to plan. Still a pain, because unless you get all the artists, building themes is a royal pain.
