Apostle Promotion Bug
In his Winter 2016 Update 20 Dec, 2016 @ 7:56pm, Hinkle2K [developer], said this was fixed.

It clearly is not as I just had this happen to me repeatedly.

I have Mont St. Michel, somewhere before turn 400 when creating new apostles it gives me the promotion notification but no promotion is available (see screen shot http://imgur.com/a/vCvez) on the unit itself. It is only giving me the automatic assigned (no player input) Mont St. Michel and not my second optional choice.

This has now happened to the last 4 apostles I've created.

I just got the game a few days ago so everything should be as updated as possible.

Is this going to be fixed?

I too am experiencing this bug since Spring Patch.

I've come to the intermediate conclusion that each promotion is only available the round you use it...so if you spawn 4 apostles in a round, all 4 can have the +20% combat bonus, or the medic bonus...and then it dissappears.

The bug being discussed in this thread is not related to the problem that you are describing.

Also, the conclusion you've drawn is incorrect. It is possible to promote one (or more) apostles with Debater (+20% religious combat bonus) and then later have Debater available as a promotion option on apostles.

@Tempest.of.emptniess Sorry I posted this in a second thread...I didn't mention I hacked the apostle options to show all the available options to choose from for every apostle. This action is why I formed my conclusion that you can only use them once..

I'd like to test my theory...is there anyone with a cheat code to gain a ridiculous amount of faith? Then I'll just make a game one easy, make 6 towns with temples as their first item, and spawn 6 apostles with the 9 choice limit.

Second, anyone reading this...can you identify where the table for the options to pick is built? For instance the Pantheon Menu is under Choosers Pantheon and that's how I hacked that menu to give any religion any of the options...not just the ones that haven't been chosen. I can't find a variable that looks like available_apostle_promotions the way the religions had available_beliefs
Testing how the game works in a modified version of the game will provide potentially unreliable information. For example, the change you made to allow yourself to choose from any option may also have changed how the game determines which options are available.

A more reliable test would be to play the game unmodded and fish for a game that includes the Yerevan city-state. Once you find one, become suzerain of that city-state and you will be able to choose from any promotion. Then you can observe whether choosing a promotion affects the ability to choose that promotion later.

The game does limit the number of apostles on the map with any one promotion at any one time, though I don't have fixed figures to go by.

I've simply observed that if the map has been flooded with a certain promotion, you may not be able to get any of that particular class.

It does get to the point where all promotions are exhausted, so you'll therefore need to wait for some apostles to be cleared before purchasing new ones.

This thread is 3+ years old, so there may have very well been a bug back then, but it could also have been the above.

So, I played a game with the cost progression gone so I've accumulated 24 apostles. I developed the great person for religion around 650 BC (didn't get stonehendge fast enough) About 2 rounds ago Turn 195 1340 AD I was able to promote to Debator (20% bonus str) and then it just disappeared as an option. I have the other 7 options (Have Martyr from St Michaels. This after a game where after 1 round 4 apostles it just dissappeared.

It's really confusing. Depending on which Apostle I select, I'm down to between 2 and 5 options.

Also discovered, remember I haven't finished a game yet, that if you use the Expand More mod the cost progression on the city growth eventually you can get hexes for your city that you can't farm.

Last new observation, there seems to be a bug with the adjacency bonuses...my Industrial Districts aren't getting bonuses for mines in adjacent tiles in the adjacent city.

The update on the 17th put back the cost progression model. Can someone whip up a quick Mod to make Costprogression zero?
